OMg i get out of my drive way well i start going, there si about a 1/4 inch of snow on the road i start the car in 2nd gear instead of first the car starts to spinn tire... well i come to a stop sign and it feels like i stoped then i look in both direction and im still going im like WTF. so i start tapping the brake and the car barly stopped untill i down shifted. Then im driving in 4th gear 15mph when i decied to aclerat by feathering the gass and guess what the car still peels out , guy a maxima is definatly not a car for snow esspecially myn. It was one crazy experience tonight oh and i have michilen tires XG4 or some like that all season... good luck to all you 5spds with no ABS this winter thats all i have to say....

 

In some instances no ABS has its advantages in the snow by allowing the snow to build up infront of the tire.

 

You just need to learn to drive in the snow and/or get some decent tires. I've hardly ever had a problem and I've been in some pretty nasty stuff. Also no ABS and 5spd here too.

 

Just get some good snow tires and you will have no problems. I don't have abs and I really don't miss having it. Tires make all the difference

 

we had about 2" of snow this morning. I have Blizzaks all the way around and so far i'm not pleased with them. i still spin tire when i barely apply any throttle and i still slide around. you just have to be careful in the snow and get some driving experience in as i see that you are only 16.

 

my abs speed sensor broke last year when i changed the tranny, so i am auto with no abs with 17s and kumho ecstas all season tires

 

Yea im pretty good also, my only problem is ICE it sucks, i just ride the side of the road going up or down a hill. NEVER SLAM YOUR BRAKES!! always give gas hard to get control back from a slip, and if ur fishtailing try ebraking (work for me 2day 3x)

Maximasevspec, the Maxima drives really well in the snow and ice, but you must have the right tires. I have Dunlop Wintersport M3 tires all around and have driven the car on long trips over snow-covered and icy mountain roads with complete confidence.

All-season tires are a compromise that will never perform as well as dedicated winter tires on snow and ice. If you're going to to keep those all-seasons on, just drive smooth and give yourself plenty of time to stop. But don't blame the car.

And how old are those tires of yours, anyway? If they are more than four years old, they are probably hard as rocks even if they still have tread on them.

 

braking slowly would be your best bet for slowing down, down shifting doesnt ruin your clutch and in fact down shifting would be the best method of slowing down because your slowing down the engine speed rather than slowing down the motion of the car via brakes. Of course I wouldnt downshift the whole winter everywhere i went only if the condition seem as though it will save my life faster than brakes.

if the conditions were that bad that your peeling out in 4th gear or any gear, from a rolling start, then I'm reversing my max right back into the garage its aparently too bad to go out, of course I'm in GA so I wont (most likely) see such bad conditions this winter.

 

hey vspec....nice name, i have a 5 speed and non abs and have similar problems and im still on my 18 inch rims....

 

i drive a wrangler in snowy weather. But, if I get stuck out in the max...I got tired of winter wheels, so my low profile sumotomos are on, broken abs, and 5spd. I can't wait.

5 speed and no ABS.

First snow today with the Max and first snow with a 5 speed... so far, so good, no problems. Not much snow though, just a dusting really but doesn't seem like I'll have any problems I didn't have with any other car during this weather.

Max seems fine in snow.

 

Huh??No advantage because you can't steer without abs. You may stop *slightly* quicker in a straight line but good luck if you have to hit the brakes and turn to avoid something.



Like everyone said... Get real snow tires. I did and it's made a world of difference.

No offense you suck..... learn how to drive i drove 40 miles to work this morning with snow on the road and i have all season Sumitomo tires nothing special. Just take your time and go easy on the throttle. Its not magic

 

What? Downshifting is the best way to slow your car down in the snow, then slowly apply brakes.

 

i agree, i live in utah and im still running my 18, it snowed a couple of times, and yes it was hard but i lived it, and yes downshifting is a good way to slow u down just don't use the breaks too hard.
