This is what an $1100 4th gen looks like

This is my new winter beater. Ad said it was an SE but it sure looks like a GXE to me, no fogs, chrome door handles and trim. But at the same time it's got full Bose, which I didn't think were options on GXEs but maybe I'm wrong. 168k miles on it, car runs pretty poorly right now. Anything under 1/3 throttle and above 2000rpms is ok, but below 2000 it stumbles over itself, and if you give it more than about 1/3 throttle it stumbles over itself also, and you can't really get it above 3500rpm if you are flooring it, but if you back off the throttle it will accelerate as normal. So obviously something is going on with it, but it runs and has been reliable for the guy he drove it about 1800 miles round trip to North Carolina from Michigan. Everything works on it, interior is pretty nasty but a few hours of cleaning could get it lookin good again. Came with two sets of rims and tires (snows and regulars), and a new front bumper which is sitting in the back seat right now.

I would have bought that for $1100 for the winter. Then brought it to Maaco and sold it in the spring. I thought it was dirty at first but I think he was just going for camoflauge style.

Like my brother (as some of you know ) .. when I got my Max back from him earlier this year, I was about ready to kill him w/ the condition he left it, but after $1000 spent on mechanical & maintenace items, several weekends on interior/exterior cleanup during the spring, and 9 months later, its almost like new

good luck w/ the beater, Neal .. keep us updated on your progress w/ it

Not bad at all for a $1100. From the pics it looks like it just needs a new grille, maybe some replacement headlights and a bit of TLC.

It is a 5-speed? If so, 5-speed GXE's come with nothing better than a tape deck (at least that is how my GXE was) and zero options.
