Cabin Filter

Got a 2003 SE and need to replace cabin filter. Does anyone know of an aftermarket filter (Fram or Purolator) that will work? If so, maybe a part number? The stock filter looked like poop after it was cleaned and didn't keep it's shape.

Not sure if there are any after market parts but you can always get one from courtesy parts (https://www.courtesyparts.com/Mercha...de=B7200-00005)

I think I read somewhere that you can clean the original one yourself if you are trying to save a buck. I'm going to look at mine to see as soon as it warms up!

Do you know if you even have one??? Open your glove box and if there no sticker stating when it was changed, you more than likely don't have one. Stealers change them every 15K miles.

I cleaned mine the other day. Although it didn't retain its original shape I re-used it anyway. The next time I pull it I'll probably replace it. I'm not sure if there is an OEM equivalent available.

i think i have one, got the car fully loaded when new, even asked the stealership if there was ANYTHING missing.. they even said no. for some reason my stealership service dept prefers NOT to do work.... i asked them to replace the front pads when they changed the rotors and did not do it... they are an odd bunch.

as per courtesyparts.com: Maintenance interval: every 12 months/15,000 miles

but i've had my car for over 2 years now and havent done it. it's not a big deal. i will probably replace mine when i hit 36,000. if you have a sort of mildew smell then you may want to look into that a bit sooner. as for washing it -- i don't know how effective that is.

Nissan replacement comes in 2 parts with plastic sides. It is much better then factory one. Replace every 15k if you drive in dusty conditions, otherwise every 25k

Yeah post #4 is very helpful. In fact he has some other good hints too. Like my sunroof had a gap and was not sitting flush and there was some wind noise. When I read this on his website I am like wow, I have the same exact problem too. The part was like 53 cents/peice from the stealership. I was actaully surprised they did'nt charged $53 for one. Anyways the microfilter is pretty simple to change and runs for about $50. But I dont know of any other place you can purchase it from except the Stealership.

I used the http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/cabin_filter.html to clean mine. Very detailed instructions. However the end result after cleaning didn't work out in my favor.

So is there a company that makes an off-the-shelf part that fits the 2003 other than a Nissan replacement part? Maybe I'll hit up Manny, Moe & Jack on the way home tormorrow.

as per my previous post:
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=B7200-00005

if it's $50 at the dealership then when you add shipping this probably wont save you any money but if you're lazy like me and dont want to waste time on a saturday driving to the dealership since they're not open past 5 on a weekday then order it from this place.

is there a significant difference in the air quality between having or not having the filters?

i don't notice any difference really but from the pics i've seen of people taking their filter out the thing is dirty as hell and sometimes has all kinds of bugs stuck to it.

Thanks for the info guys. I asked the Firestone guys to change my filter when I had the tires rotated. The manager insisted that my car does not have an in-cabin microfilter. He even owns a 5th gen Maxima. His basis was that his computer did not show a part number. My glove box and my service manual says that I *do* have a filter. Now that I have instructions on where it is and how to change it, I've ordered one from Courtesy Nissan and will change it myself. Thanks again for your help.

BTW, I used to live less than 2 miles from Courtesy Nissan in Richardson. It seems strange to order parts from them off the internet.

let me know how easy that is. i've found that there are more screws that need to be removed than what housecors write up talks about. there are two in the top two corners of the glovebox, two that hold the bracket on and one in the bottom right corner where the glove box meets the plastic piece that runs right next to the door sill. i also found it easier to remove the glovebox if you snap out this plastic piece.

I cleaned mine last night. it was cake. There are two screws on the bottom of the glove box. one on each corner. After i washed mine i put it in the oven for like 30 minutes on 180f with the door cracked open. That dried it alot. Then i went over it with a blow dryer for like 10 minutes. Real easy job. good luck

(1.)What models does the filter coming standard?
(2.) OR do you just have to look for the stickers to determine if you have it or not?
(3.) By changing the filter will it stop the roten egg smell coming through to vent sometimes when you drive.

it's easy. just make sure you have all the screws out and then pull on the right corner of the glovebox closest to you where it meets the door. there should be 5 screws from what i remember.

I took mine out a while back and just shook it out, but I think that is time for me to actually wash it or replace it or not even put it back in. These things are a pain in the ****.

For a 2K, does anyone for sure whether or not the slot exists to install a filter even if you did not choose the option to have a filter when buying the car new?

You're right. I did this writeup in a hurry and didn't take pics to note all the screw locations...that's why I went the easy route and just said "remove all screws". I'm nearing the 15k mark since the last time I did this so I'll update the writeup when I do this again.

don't forget to add the part about taking out the plastic trim piece that runs parallel to the door sill out when you redo it. i found it to be much easier to get the glove compartment to drop out of the way with that piece removed.

any chance for an honorable mention if you decide to include that last part?
