EZ Kill ... 2000 Celica GTS - auto with CAI
Went 4 bubble tea with a buddy of mine ... we've never yet had the opportunity 2 race ... so ... 2nite ... boy .. was it ever a walk in the park ... we raced 3 times ...
first time I gunned it b/c I had no idea how he'd do with the CAI (which sounds awesome btw!!!!!) I jumped ahead & started with about 4 bumper lead ... only drove 2 80 km/h cuz I knew I had him
did it again but this time I gave him a split second advantage ... just 2 let him get going ... np again
3rd time ... it was a rolling start & I was in 2nd ... he had me by about 4 bumper lengths ... ezily caught up ... I thought these were fast? it was brutal how slow he was ...

I've never heard a Celica being called a piece of dung....(until now)
My 91 GTS wasnt the fastest set of wheels...hell it only put out 130 hp.....but it was the most reliable set of wheels I've ever owned (like most Toyota products)
That body style from 90-92 looks a heck of a lot better than the new Inspector Gadget looking thing now
I loved that car...might have taken a bit to get to 60 but didnt feel slow and I had no problem hitting 100 if for some reason in my youth I felt like it.
Ive already visted the Nissan dealer for problems more times in less than a year with this car than I did in almost 10 years with my Toyota. I'd still be driving that thing if I didnt get it crunched a few summers ago. It was fixed but when I looked at the undercarrige on a lift I decided it was time for a replacement.
Celica....maybe slower than the Max..(btw how friggin fast do you need to go 0-60?????) but a piece of crap? Little off base but to each his own I guess.
Get a rice bike if you want to go 0-60 in 4 seconds...jeesh

I saw one run in the low 15's at the track this past Friday. My neighbor has one, he's getting bored with it all ready. You have to really wind it up to get any power. If you don't it's like driving a Corolla. The HP is high, but the torque is very low at 130 ft. lbs. The shifter is very unToyota-like... not as smooth as their other shifters. I do like the styling on it though.

GT-S
Horsepower: 180 hp @ 7600 rpm
Torque: 130 ft-lbs. @ 6800 rpm
GT
Horsepower: 140 hp @ 6400 rpm
Torque: 125 ft-lbs. @ 4200 rpm
An automatic on a small 4 is awful.

No... there is an auto GT-S. I didn't realize that until I checked out Edmunds.

Lucky to race an Automatic GTS
You were lucky to race an Celica GTS Auto Trans, they are sort of slow specially at the low end, I own an Maxima Y2K Auto., and my son has an GTS 6 speed with a cone filter and a muffler thats it, he runs 14.5s, and wipes my *** easy. For the 1/8 mile its a close run, after that the Max is History. BTW my Max has an Stillen YPipe,KNFilt, VB Mods etc. Anyway Im a Max Lover!

Actually I'm saying there is... based upon the information from Edmunds.com.

Pepo... that's pretty impressive. The best I've seen is a 14.9. I bet Larry J. in FL will give him a run for the money.

Don't flatter yourself.

Take a Max or LHS to the twisties with a GT-S, then see what's up.
To Paul
Hi Paul, remember me, tell Larry J from FL to take out the Catalist and he will touch the 14.5s. Regards

well it's only 180 hp on a 1.8 but it's 2500 lbs too!
the best time for a Celica with a CAI and unbolted exhaust is 14.3
several other guys at newcelica.org have gotten 14.4s
This is as fast a 5th Gen.
Oh the twisties it'd be a little different

But, the handling and brakes are definitely better than the maxima. The thing handles like its on rails, and stops like you threw out an anchor.
Anyone else who's actually driven one can back me up on this...
There is such thing as the auto GT-S and it's a dawg. Most guys are getting mid 16s with the autos.
As for the 6 speeds, yes, there are two that have hit 14.3-14.4@98mph. However, the conditions at which these cars were run is pretty amazing. They were running under a barometric pressure of 32.3 which is like running 4000 feet BELOW sea level and the temp was 33 degrees. Prior to these ets, both drivers were in the upper 14s@94mph. They still don't admit that the conditions they were racing in made for the huge drop in et. Even a few Clubsi members were at the track that night and were running 14.9s in nearly stock Civic Sis. Tell me how often you've seen a nearly stock Si run 14s? The owner that hit a 14.3 has never been able to duplicate his best et even with the help of drag radials. Last I heard, he ran a 9.9 1/8th mile which means lower 15s (I think he did have slipping clutch).
For the most part, the GT-S 6 speed with an intake can run in the 14.7-14.9 range under more normal conditions. "Most" drivers are running 15.0-15.2@93mph.
The GT-S 6 speed is definately a match for any NA Maxima.
