For all VQ35 experts, question about new VQ in G35
I read in an article that the engine now redlines at 7000 RPM thanks to stronger internals on the engine. What exactly was done, and will this allow the engine to handle FI better now?

They already have a new VQ40(stroked VQ35), so what do you mean a long time? I'd say they're going to switch over soon.

I guess that would make sense. Here is the quote from the article about the new VQ35 version for the 2005 G35 coupe:
"The G35 Coupe 6MT model receives an additional 18-plus horsepower and a red line increase to 7,000 rpm compared to the automatic transmission-equipped G35 coupes’ standard 280 horsepower and 6,600 rev limit, bringing its power to 298-horsepower. The extra power comes from the addition of electronic exhaust valve timing and numerous structural improvements to the engine block. Torque is rated at 270 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe and 260 lb-ft for the G35 Coupe 6MT."

It mentioned numerous improvements to the block, so I am curious to find out what all they did. Mainly, I hope this makes the car friendlier to FI! In a couple years a used 2005 might just be in my budget, and I would love to turbo or supercharge it. The Max will be paid off in a few months and will make a great second car. I heard the current G35 does not take well to boost, and has a risk of blowing the engine due to high compression...hopefully the 2005 coupe will be better.
Thanks for the great info so far, keep it coming if anyone knows anything else, and have a Merry Christmas! ---Alex
I still havent found any real answers in the new 350Z/G35c ESMs. The cams are listed as being the same. The blocks don't have the MANY structural iprovements that the VQ40DE has.
The VQ40DE is not a stroked VQ35. It's a vastly different block. It has better cams than the VQ35, much longer rods, bigger rod journals, much bigger mains, hugearse one piece main cap/block girdle design. And I think it's about 20+mm taller (actuall block height not listed).
