best amount to cut stock shifter

im getting a new momo shift **** for christmas and i decided that when i go to install it im gonna cut down the height of my shifter shaft. mainly because i think ive gotten tired of my friends saying it looks like im shifting with a big *****, and also im tired of the overall high look, and the feeling that its going to break off when i shift hard. yes i know that this wont decrease the throw of my shifter, im just cutting it for mostly cosmetic purposes. so anyways my question is to those who have cut their shafts. how much did you cut off? and do you like the amount that you took off, or would you take off more(less)?

it is going to be so hard to shift if you cut that thing. You can get a pacesetter for $70, check the threads before someone gave out a website.

Back before the CE STS, I had cut my stock shifter about 2 inches. Just under the nipples that stick out for the shifter boot's upper ring. I liked it just fine. But an STS is a choice to think about if you really wants shorter throws and not just a shorter shifter.
