Odd creaking sound...

Hmm... it seems that when ever I get out of my car(from the front drivers side), there is an odd creaking sound that seems to occure near the back end. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this sound? I'm guessing it's obviously suspension related, but I wanted to know if anyone knew any specfic part that would cause this to happen. The only thing that I can relate this sound to is an old creaky chair being moved around.

So if I jack up the car would that be the only way to tell if I have an unseated spring? Can you tell by looking at it? I'm not really sure what and 'unseated' spring would look like.
