I was wondering this because, I could possibly get a 95/96 motor from a junk yard, and send it out to have work done to it(port/polish, extrudehone, blueprint, balance, supercharger, etc.) and still have my daily driver. Also, I have heard that the 95/96 engine can make more hp because the ecu can be programmed.

Any help would be appreciated....thanks

its the same engine... the only difference is the ECU, and exhaust restrictions.. but the engine itself is the same

Maybe....but i guess cost will be more dependent on the engine's condition and mileage.

there are also minor differences in the motor also. My 95 doesnt use a Map/Baro sensor and i picked up my motor/tranny and all misc parts from a 96 and it uses a Map/Baro sensor and some other minor differences i cant rmeember rite now. They are basically the same thing tho.

obviously if i am going to have the engine rebuilt, balance and blueprinted, then the age of the engine doesn't matter.

Also, is it possible to push 350 ponies out of the max?

yes but you are going to need Limited Slip to hold it to the floor

Be aware that in most states it is illegal to put an older engine into a newer car.

technically, the engine wouldn't be older because i'd have it rebuilt. Pretty much every working part on the engine would be new or resurfaced....

Federal emmision standards. California is VERY strict about this.

the only reason putting an older engine in your car would be illegal is because of emissions standards. putting the BLOCK of a 95-96 VQ in your car would be fine, as they'd still use pretty much the same parts otherwise.
but to put an older engine than that in there would be illegal, because you'd have to remove/disable/modify most of the emissions control equipment in order to make it work.. THAT'S what is illegal, not just changing engines.

It's all the green tape people. may they all rot in their own recycled coffins.

But arent the 95/96 engines similar except for the ECU and some other parts? Tell me this though: Would having the 95/96 engine in my 97 cause me to fail inspection? Also, would I be better off doing the work to the engine that i in my car now? (The reason I wanted another one was so that I could be able to drive my car instead of waiting for 6 months)
