Ok... Cons. Reports says reliability = Exceptional....
but I have seen lots of Tranny posts... I"m not likin' this....
cuz Thats why I'm getting rid of my TBird and getting foreign... my TBird needs "Probly at least 1000 to repair it" per the shop guy today....... ::shudders::

So n e how, how many of you have had tranny woes?
Is there any precautions, any reinforcements ot make if i buy a 4th gen?

I've ruled out the 2001 Alty cuz I can't wait til Sept for a new car, my TBird will never last....

thanks

to be honest...the 4th gen trannys seem to be very strong. Even the 5th....BUT the 5th gen killed themselevs...not cuz it was weak, but the program was creating a long pause in the shift..which eventually will kill it. The post below from JJW....he has a SUPERCHARGER....so he doesn't count Jim W's tranny went out on him....but he was at the track when it happened.....doing burnouts! Many times you read here about people's trannys going but they are abusing they car. They don't count also

If you abuse ANY auto, from a Kia to BMW, it WON'T last. Period!

Don't wait until September. You can buy a 2001 Altima right off the showroom floor today. In fact, Nissan is running a rebate incentive program right now. Hurry!

Mine shifts a little rough when cold and hunts between 3rd an 4th on the highway, but seems quite strong. I think quite a few of us just find it rather unrefined for a car with such an exceptional engine. BTW, the 2002 Altima comes out in September, not the 2001.
