A guy I know just got his Jetta and wants to race. I dont know a whole lot about Jetta's so I thought id post and ask. The Jetta is all stock, my Max just has an Intake. Who do you guys think would win? Thanks Oh mines an auto his is 5spd

 

since his is a 5-speed. a fourth gen with an intake auto will run around 15.4 to 15.6 depending on conditions. i believe a 5 speed VR6 will run about the same or just a hair or two quicker. i know they are not as fast as a 5 speed max so maybe low 15's?

 

The VR6 is going to pull on you, unless hes a really bad shifter he will win this race every time.......

 

I dont think so, I watched 3 Max's beat those VR6's the other night. One of the max's was a given because it was Supercharged but the other two only had Intakes. The Max's pulled about a half a car length on the Jetta and kept it that way. It will be close but you should win unless he's a great driver. Take Care

 

i highly doubt these races were VR6 5-speed VS MAX autos, this is the race SB97MAX is talking about..........

 

As much as I hate to say it I think the Jetta will win. I did some reading up when I bought my max back in 99 and If I remember corectly R&T rated the SE 5speed @15.5 in 1/4 mile; Mtrend @15.4; and the vr6 5 speed @ 15.7(R&T) in the 1/4. I figure magazines arent always the best judges.. but if they had the jetta running that close to a 5 speed max and the auto's are almost a second slower.. doesnt look good, but you never know, Ive beaten faster cars than my own just cuz I out drove the other driver. My sisters roomate has a Jetta VR6. I have driven it a few times, once for over 500 miles. I can say that it pulls hard up to about 4k and then it dies. I am not going to waste time posting numbers, because the ones I found are exactly like the ones posted here. I have to think that if you launch your car perfect that you might loose a bit until about 30. From there I think you should pull on it with your auto. If memory serves me correct, they only have 170hp.

The VR6 is fast but I think you may have a chance. I used to drive a V70 Turbo and raced one and the race was just about even. The VR6 had a tad more pull. If you lose, you won't get "walked" as they say.

 

I figured it would probably beat me but its a good friend of mine so I dont have to worry about him talkin crap or anything. He just wants to see how his car does. He's gonna be over here in a while and well go race. Ill post results if you want. Take Care

 

I've never lost to an NA jetta VR6 yet... they just don't have the torque to race against me.

 

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that you will win by 1-1.5 lengths. He can not beat you. The races I saw the other night WERE Max Autos with only Intake against the Jetta VR6 5spd. All three of the Max's beat it. One didnt really count though because it had a SC. Good Luck

 

don't know about the Jetta..

but the same night i ran 14.7.. i raced my friend in his STOCK Golf GTI vr6 and he was only half a car behind me up to 120 mph

 

I raced a VR6 on the freeway a couple of weeks ago and beat him. I was pulling on him from 75+ but not by much. I THINK it was a five speed but not sure.

 

I raced a NEW 5spd VR6 the other day, he has Exhaust, intake, Nuspeed computer chip. Off the line i pulled about 3 cars on him. keep in mind, my car is pretty much stock rite now, intake, muffler, no y-pip, no pully, no S-AFC.

 

Nice. Lights under the dash. I wish there was a grey color bulb I could do that with.

 

yup, yj and i were right behind him when they raced. it was no competition. it turns out that guy is in one of my business classes at school. i talked to him later about it, and he said "i'm not used to losing." lol.

 

This makes me happy. I don't like Jettas :} coughyuppiecarcough.

 

My buddy with the Jetta is over here, we just raced a few times and it was pretty even. I beat him the first time by about half a length then the next race we tied and the last race I beat him by about 1 car length. It was a pretty close race and he is a good driver so...... sb97max, scope out some Grand Prix's without SC though. My cousin rented one on Sunday and although they handle nice, they don't get up like the Maximas. You seem to come acroos a lot of people that talk a lot of trash, I hope get a chance to take one out. The way you are running, I don't think you would suffer a terrible loss if you raced one with SC anyway.

Deezo, A buddy of mine has a 99 Grand Prix and is always asking me to race but from what a lot of people have told me ill get killed. What do you think? Ive heard they are pretty fast, is that true? Take Care

 

I raced a Grand Prix(non SC with 190HP) with no mods at all and I pulled away. I drove the one my cousin rented this past weekend and I didn't feel like the Maxima. It felt faster than an LHS, which probably means nothing, and slower than the Max. I know you haven't done much to your car yet but I think you can win. Trust me, the GP is nothing to be afraid of.

 

Well with that said I guess ill give it a try. The best part about where I live is that 6 of my buddies live in the same apartment complex as me. (very easy to find races)lol My friend with the Jetta and my friend with the Grand Prix both live here. Now my other friend that lives here im gonna leave the hell alone. He has a Twin Turbo Supra. Ill agree to his challenge and race him. He kept asking me to race him today after I raced the VR6 but I didnt. Ill let you know how it goes. Take Care
