werid noise

ok something odd lately and i am stuck on what it could be, i have a feeling its a pully how ever timing tensioners, waterpump, alternator have already been replaced...

any way when i start my car it get this werid BRAMP BRAMP BRAMP sound for a coule secconds then it fades out and theres a whirring sounds untill the thermometer on the dash moves...

its got me worried, i just got a new job and untill ig et established money is gonna be tight and i do need to up on a trip to Portland in the next week too.

any ideas?

oh the whirring sounds is consistant no matter what i do unless i romp on it then i cant hear it but i tend not to romp on the gas when its 27 degrees out...the coolant tests at -40F too so its definitly not freezing

ok and i know its long already but b oil guage is bein funky too.

starting it up it says i have a little over 80 PSI in the morning, when it warms up to normal temp the guage almost hits zero and the car runs fine (other than the knock and ping and chattering thats always been there) and it doesent over heat so sending unit mabe?

Ummm....there is a knock/ping/chatter? That is when it gets warm or all the time? That's not a normal sound. Have you check your oil level lately?

As for the noise during startup....have you pinpointed where it's coming from? It's hard to diagnose when you don't know where the noise is.

Wait....it's lower on the dipstick when it's cold?

Try this.....at the next oil change, substitute one quart of oil with a quart Lucas Oil Stabilizer.....or Rislone. Keep and eye on the pressure as the motor gets warm.....as well as if the noise stays or goes.

The noise you describe has cause for concern...especially if you notice obnormally low oil pressure. Usually when a car starts making a knocking noise/pinging...or is loud and is concurrent with there being low oil pressure is usually a good indication of lack of proper lubrication. Even if it has been normal...I'd look into finding out what exactly is causing that noise...or potentially that money you just spent fixing the car after a broken timing belt is going to catch fire and burn.

the knocking pinging is only when it warms up and has always happened, the other 2 are recent

and yes its lower but not by any huge ammount, just a little bit. any fluid will do that

i've also been thinking about using ATF +3 (mopar friction modified ATF) to see if my transmission shapes up but i think its on its way out

the other thing was when i noticed it today, it was really cold today it snowed which is werid for here, it may be that damn alternator belt again, i had the chargin system tested and its fine

Does your oil pressure rise when the revs come up? Mine is high when it's cold and once warmed up it hits almost nothing, but only at idle. If i'm driving it comes up. It could be a worn oil pump that has problems 'grabbing' the oil once it thins out when it's warm, try what Sarin suggested or even just running some 20w50 in it and see if it improves oil pressure and if the regular 'warm' noises diminish.

it does a little, from about 5 or 10 to 15 or 20 when i rev it to 2 or 3 thousand.

and the other reason i am pretty sure the knocking/pinging arent related is because it only seems to knock or ping when the thermostat opens, so in my mind its one of 3 things causing that, sensor, timing or aav...i'm going to have the timing adjusted at my uncles shop since i dont have a timing light, i'm also thinging about having them change the chts or coolant temp sensor or what ever its called

ok well yesteday i drove arround alot, it didnt knock or ping this time but that doesent mean its fixed.

the whirring sound was the power steering, i put a mix of ATF+3 and about 10/10 stop leak but i know the banjo fittings need new gaskets so it's just to tide me over untill i can get the bottom steam cleaned and fix it in the summer. it werid because the first time i herd the whirring sound i checked the power steering and it was full and this time it was just a smidge below the min mark. on an unrelated topic my power steering cap has french on it instead of english and japanese....werid

the bramp bramp thing hasnt happened yet but iots been warmer too (like 37 is warm but still) so thats still up in the air

also i have about 9 more days working as a lube tech untill i go to my new job so i am gonna do a transmission exchange on it but is there any easy way to do the filter too?

i know i asked this before but i want it done because theres still black stuff that just seems to get attracted by the check stick that i want gone

I've heard that the tranny filter is damn near impossible to get to cos you hafta disassemble the tranny. some guys have said to just throw some lucas or trans-tune in there and hope for the best. do the pans have the magnet in them? that should attract a lot of stuff that's floating around in there.

it should have a magnet but a magnet can only get so much, the stuff attracted to the dipstick is black but not sparkily so i'm pretty sure its the innards of my transmission cooler lines which are toasted

eww. good luck with it man. at least it doesn't SOUND like it's anything with the tranny itself.

my oil pressure gauge also kinda drifts to and fro, had it checked, they said it's a bad sending unit. But it freaked me out at first to see it go from 2/3 up to amost zero (and back). But at least now I know I do have oil pressure
