0407 Crankshaft Pos Sensor (REF)
0407 Crankshaft Pos Sensor (REF)
I have found out that a few things could trigger this CEL (0407). Either the sensor, harness, or fuse could be bad.. or even the starter. I just rebuilt my starter from motorvate.ca's directions almost 6 months ago, but the CEL came up while struggling to get my car started..
I am assuming that the problem is coming from my starter, and I am familiar with replacing it. However, if its not the starter, are there any other ways to test the Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)? I do not have a multimeter. Also, I can't find the part anywhere..

Crank Position REF is located on the lower belt pully. Turn the steering wheel full right and pull back the inner section of the right front wheel splash shield. You'll see the sensor which looks at the crank pully.
It's got nothing to do with your starter. You need a multi-meter to test it.

you can special order the part from autozone, it costs bout $80, they MIGHT have a problem with the part number, ask them waht the part number for the (POS) sensor is as well. when i wetn they had the same part nubmer for both, it took me 5 minutes to explain that the sensor they gave me was the wrong one.
the (POS) being covered in metal shavings will also trigger a hard start, which in turn will set off the 0407 CPS (REF) code. you need to buy a multimeter, itll cost you $15 at walmart, well worth it. you'll be using that thing left and right. the POS sensor is located underneatht he car and its bolted on with the rear bank o2 sensor harness, pull it off and clean it. clean the REF sensor one as well.
