Anyone have any insight on which repair manual is better.

I have a Chilton's manual and believe that the Haynes is a little more detailed.

Check this site out for a very detailed comparison of the manuals:

The aftermarket manuals are a good choice for most home mechanics.
Haynes is better than Chilton. For my detailed comparison of all three manuals, see http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/manualcompare.html

I have been using Haynes manuals for decades (oops, gave my age away). I like them better than Chiltons, because they have more precise visual detail and very DIY instructions (minimal mechanic-speak). For the DIY (do it yourselfer), Haynes is it. I just wish they'd release the manuals sooner than they do. I had to wait 5 years to get the manual for my '95 Maxima.
