81 Max... when all else fails, go back to the basics

So I had just returned home from a 1300 mile road trip with my car summer of 2003 when my Max up and quit running altogether. I had no idea what had happened because I was getting spark, fuel pressure, and good enough compression. It still just wouldn't fire at all. It's been sitting in my mom's garage in St Louis ever since while I've been at school. I went home over winter break and with a can of Deoxit, a new battery, new battery cables, and an electrical contact file kit and got it running on the first turn o' the crank. She was running very rough though, with backfiring and a strange tapping noise coming from the valve cover area. I popped it off and found a valve guide broken in two and sitting in the head. That was scary. I replaced that and it ran fine. Made it back to Tucson no problem.

-p.s. I don't push my luck... not in the least.
