Just wondering what kind of mileage people are getting. My '05 SL all of about 2 weeks old seems to be chugging gas like my SUV. After my first fill at the station I am getting about 13 MPG. I do mostly local driving.

 

goes up slow.......... and they recommend once you're on the highway to reset it and get the car to give you a highway mpg. same with the city. mines give me 17-18 city.

I think you have to wait to get more miles on the car if you bought new. I bought the car with 40 miles on it and took awhile before it went up.......

 

In the city I get about 19 mpg...I could probably do better if I laid off the gas a bit more.

How often do you floor it? Or I should say how often is the rpm above 3000?

 

I don't pay much attention to gas mileage in city driving. If traffic is bad enough, and one sits long enough without moving, even a car that gets 60mpg on the highway is getting very poor gas mileage.

City driving includes unspecified periods of time not moving. Gas burned while sitting still should not be 'charged' against the MPG of whatever vehicle one is driving.

I'm getting around 20 to 23 mpg in a mixture of city/suburban driving, around 24 to 26 in a mixture of suburban/rural driving, 26 or 27 in a mixture of rural/busy interstate driving, around 28 or 29 on open hilly interstates, and 29 or 30 on open level interstates averaging around 75 mph.

These numbers are very similar to what I get with my 2000 SE, which is a lighter car with 43 less HP. I consider the 6th gen Maxima to be rather efficient, fuel-wise.

I can still remember the 8 mpg in suburban/city driving and 11 mpg on open freeways I got with premium gas in my 1966 Olds Delta 88. Of course, that car had a 455 cubic inch engine and weighed 4200 pounds.

 

I get around 25mpg for combined city and interstate driving. I also use 93 octane (I dunno if it affects mpg's at all...). But Light is right (rhyme?) re city driving. it does lower your mpg because of the stop-and-go driving in the city. but compared to other cars in its class, I believe the 6th gen is fairly "gas-economical". just avoid flooring it too much...(but sometimes i can't resist the urge to feel the Max power "To the MAX"!!!)

 

I get around 24 mpg for city driving, lots of time on freeway, not much stop and go. Just did a long road trip and got about 29 mpg.

 

That's about right. I've gotten 30 and 31 mpg when driving the interstate with a slight tail wind, but it's usually between 27 and 29 mpg. I have more stops in town and only get between 17 and 20 mpg there.

Use your onboard computer, it tells you both mpg (my checks show it to be about as accurate as doing the math) and average mph. When cruising the interstates at 75 this number shows at about 72 or 73 because I have to drive to and from the highway. Around town it generally shows from 20 to 28 mph unless I get caught in stop and go driving and it will be less.

 

I'm getting just under 22 combined, but I don't do much highway driving. The little I do is during rush hour and the traffic is like a rubber band, slowing down, speeding up, slowing down, coming to almost a stop, speeding up.... My overall average speed is just over 30MPH according to the onboard computer. Plus, it is only 18 miles door to door, which is less than a tank of gas.

 

Heh, heh, Phil, the 18 miles door to door should certainly be less than a tank of gas, unless you got the special 1 gallon special edition .....

 

My morning commute is less than 5 miles.... which is both good and bad (good since it's not very long, bad for the car since it will spend most of it's time warming up...)

 

i just did a 2300 mile stint to the Carolinas and Georgia, and I got around 28-29 on the Highway with 5 people, and a completely packed trunk.

 

I was wondering about this myself.

I have an '04 SE and get 25.8 combined. Not bad considering I drive pretty aggressively.

 

Mine is 22.8 MPG. I have never reset it since I bought the car new.

 

I reset the computer mileage calculation every time I fill up. I can quote you the mileage for every segment between fill-ups for over 24 K miles.
