Spent nearly the entire day completing this project due to rounding up of materials and other unforseen issues. However, I just took it out for a spin and I have a couple of observations.

On engine response - I don't seem to feel much difference here but for some reason it seems like the transmission is shifting a bit quicker and smoother....interesting. Idle is a bit lower (now just below 1k rpm) and smoother as well.

On others - One thing I noticed is that the headlights and fogs are definitely a bit brighter and it also seems like the radio for some reason sounds a bit "crisper". Also, not sure if this is really logical, but the brakes feel quite a bit more responsive as well.

Overall, I found this to be a very worthwhile endeavor and thanks to Irish for a SWEET how-to writeup....couldn't have done this without him.

25ft of 6 gauge Borg Warner battery cable (O'Reillys) - 1.49
12 6 gauge copper circular lugs (end caps - O'Reillys) - 11.88
4 6 gauge copper circular lugs "" (Autozone) - 3.98
New bolts, nuts, and washers ~ 4.00

I noticed a difference in throttle response (quicker) but not with the headlights or brakes though. I was hoping it would take away the engine noise from my speakers but it didn't. I agree, it was a very easy and beneficial mod to do.

 

I'm glad you're happy with it. It would've saved a lot of time if we had discovered Van's secret crimping method earlier.

 

Ya, the soldering was definitely the most time consuming part of this procedure...and it didn't even work. I am glad Van made me look stupid by showing us that way to crimp, so that I didn't spend the whole day just trying to solder the wires.

Lol, as Adam and I were messing with the solder and not getting anywhere, Van walked up with his hammer, put the wire and copper endcap to the ground, and just flattened it right onto the wire -- worked like a charm, lol.

 

I soldered and crimped. Since those big lugs are hard to crimp, I put the flux on the wire, then put the wire into the lug. Then where the two crimp ends meet, I used a hammer and large screwdriver to crimp the wire down. Then heated the lug/wire and flowed the solder into the area. Very easy. Don't forget to slip on the heat shrink of before.

 

Well, I didn't use any heat shrink. Just put electrical tape around the exposed areas of wire near the lug.

 

Go get some dyno graphs to see what it did to the power delivery.

 

Eh, the thing is the tape will unravel after awhile.

 

I plan to, but considering there are zero places that dyno around here, I will have to wait until I get back down to Dallas in a couple weeks.

 

After getting to drive for an extended amount of time for the first time post-install, I noticed that my car is now idling down around 600rpm and it barely even seems as if the car is running.

 

I think i need a grounding kit. Everytime I step on the gas at night my lights get dimmer.

 

i love mine..quicker start-up, smoother idle, better throttle response, windows roll up quicker, and lights are brighter

what size should i make my hyper ground wires out of? 6 or 8 gauge? should it be all copper wires? not sure what ill be able to find at autozone.
