Installing newer VQ w/some rust and have questions
I picked up a newer VQ with around 50k miles on it for $400 bux. The reason they were selling it so cheap is cus the oil pan has some damage. No biggie, i'll just reuse the old one. But the spark plug cover is broken and was only covering the spark plug hole #2. Numbers 4 and 6 were exposed to the elements. They didnt even have the ignition coil in place.
Those 2 spark plug holes are full of rust. Is there any chance that the combustion chamber is rusted out too. Also, the coolant tube that attaches to the upper radiator hose and goes into the block was exposed and also has rust in it.
Who knows if the coolant passages in the engine have rust too. Oh man, i almost forgot about the driveplate. You guessed it, that's rusted too. Should i try to salvage this engine or would i be better off returning it and getting one with no rust issues?? Thanks in advance.
Mike
P.S. anything else i should check for??

You think so?? The next cheapest engine would be in the 500 range.
My friend told me something that i didnt think about. The spark plugs are still in the holes. So although the holes are rusty, it would prevent water from getting into the combustion chambers. One down. As for the coolant system having rust in it, what can i do to fix that?

Hmmm... i just thought about the rusted driveplate and i'll just use the driveplate from the old engine. Two down. So what about the rust that's perhaps formed in the coolant passages??
If there was any residual coolant in the passages it would prevent rusting. Most of the passages are aluminum and should not rust. The only steel is the one above the front exhaust manifold. You could always use the the parts off the old motor as you are with the other stuff. The upper rad log comes off with four 12mm bolts.
