I apologize for not putting this in the OT section, as the car I'm asking about isn't a Maxima. It's my 1985 Honda Accord that I'm selling since I bought my Max. Hopefully, this problem and any helpful info given will apply to all auto trannies, not just mine...

Ok, on my '85 Accord (fuel injected sedan, 110k), the tranny shifts pretty hard into reverse, no matter how warm. The rest of the shifting runs fine until I put it into park, at which time it shifts into gear, waits a half-second to a second, then clunks. The dipstick indicates ATF is full, and it still looks and feels clean with no contaminants and no burning.

Should I prepare myself for bad news, or is this something that MAY be fixed with a simple fluid change or other adjustment? Or is it just normal for an old tranny and I shouldn't worry (yeah, right)?

 

Not sure if your problem is that severe or not. My folks run old Volvos that do the same thing. They have been doing it for a couple of years and have had no further problems...

 

So nobody else has any advice?

i took my max to my nissan service for it's engine and auto tranmission get flushed this morning. It runs like NEW!! I recommend it.
