People with Frankencar Intakes... please step in.

A brief history:

I have had my Frankencar midpipe and Apexi intake (filter) for well over a year. I had the Apexi intake attached with a piece of bent aluminum, so that it would not rub on the left wheel column inside the engine bay. About a month ago the aluminum piece broke, and now the filter rubs again, and makes annoying noises when I get on the gas pedal.

Now the questions: are there any other remedies for the rubbing? What other intakes (filters) work well with the Frankencar midpipe, so that they don't rub? How many miles is the Apexi intake good for, before replacement?

Thanks...

I broke that bracket 3 times. I just tightened the rest of the bolts on tight, and put a piece of rubber between the fender wall and the filter. It should be fine. Berk tuning sells a regular KN Cone filter, that will work well with your setup, if you don't want to go with the Apexi again.

Rubber eh? Any special kind? How did you attach it? I have tightened the bolts as tight as they would go.. and I have ~16-17k on the filter.

hmmm...I've had no problems with rubbing with my FC/Apexi setup or breaking the mount bracket piece so I'm of little help. The Apexi should be good for at least 50K miles, jsut take a shop-vac to it and vacuum out any debris that has built up on the outside...

You must have had the first run of the brackets. I had the bracket on for a couple of months and had no problems. I still have it with the stock midpipe and still no problems.

I had the bracket on for a while. It never fitted properly so that I had to bend it into the right shape. After that, it would make squeaking noises because the engine movement was twisting the bracket. I finally took the stupid thing off and repositioned the filter so that there is slack between the filter and the strut tower.

How did you reposition it? It's just a straight piece of tubing connected to the filter, so how did you move it over away from the tower?

Gio.. sending..

If you have any kind of mechanical inclination, it should take you no more than 30 minutes. Not sure who has a write up....I'm sure there is one somewhere.
