The nice thing about tinting them with spray is u can regulate the darkness. I want a darker look, but not blacked out. Depending on the light, they look dark red in sunlight, to almost black in low light. Very little chance of cops buggin me I think.

Tail lights come out before spraying. Easy to remove and no risk of damaging car from overspray. There is a piece of trim that stays with the light and that does have to be masked.

You take the lights out by pulling back the carpet behind the light and exposing the wiring and the two studs that hold the light in. Unscrew the nuts off the brass studs and then CAREFULLY but firmly, pull the light out. Its held in by these plastic things.

I sanded the lights with 600 on teh back up lpart since there is a nub that will show if u dont sand it down. I sanded the rest with 800 and then 1000 grit wet sand paper to have the tint stick to it.

After it has a uniform hazy look I masked the trim on the lights and began applying coats of tint using Model Master #2949 applied EVENLY. Use light coats but re spray like every 20 min or so. When you have the desired darkness (I prefer lighter rather than darker), Let it dry overnight or even bake in oven on LOW. Do you understand me when I say LOW??? LOW!!!! Dont melt the lights!!!

Now you have to smooth it out. I used 1000 grit to smooth the tint. NOw its time for clear coating. I used Dupli-color clear coat. I put on about 4-5 coats cuz I knew I would be smoothing it down a bit. I also put it in over and that smoothed it out. One light came out better than the other. It was so good, I didnt even need to sand it. The one that wasnt as good, I let it dry for a while and then I smoothed it out with 1500 grit wet sandpaper. Use constant waterflow when wetsanding. I then polished it out with Meguier's Step 2 Polish. Then I waxed to an awesome shine.

Email me with more questions or details. I have some pics of the lights taped and applying different coats. mdobkin@hotmail.com

I am also curious about this ^^^....I do not have a 6th gen but I am having my tails tinted in my fourth gen....the only thing that I worry about is having them done too dark and you cannot see the light very well.

Its interesting because when the sun is out, they still look smoked but like a very light smoke. You can still see lots of red, its just a dark red. When its in the shade or esepcially when its dusk, it looks darker. The reflectors inside each side of the lights still reflect. I think its better like that because if you black out ur lights, ur gonna get a ticket.

Light output is great. The reverse lights shine nicely, and you cant tell the difference. The tail lights and brake lights are both bright. Thats the beauty of !!!

What Color Cars Do You Guys Think Will Look Good With Smoked Tail Lights. I Want To Do It On My Car But Im Not 100% Posative It Will Look Good I Have A Spirited Bronze Max With 20% Tint On Sides And 10% In The Back.

What Color Max''s Do Youz Think Look Best With Smoked Tails.

I think tinted tails only look good on darker cars...the less contrast the better.

Do it! They look so much better on blk 5.5 gens. Not only that, i've thrown a few people off thinking i have the 3.0.
Then they get roasted!

I appreciate the compliments. Im glad everyone likes the look as I like it too. I passed by several cops in the last few days without getting pulled over. Yeah!!! So far, so good. Even passed a guy with a black 6th gen with tint and dubs and he was checking out the ride.
