Installed my 350Z dead pedal to match my AE pedals
Installed my 350Z dead pedal to match my AE pedals
I got the Z dead pedal to try since it was only $13. I had to do a lot of cutting and grinding but I was able to make it work just fine.
I almost dont want to post the pic because the carpet is so messy but figured what the heck I will get some nice pics when I replace my carpet.
The pedal looks a little funny because of the angle and the camera had a hard time focusing in the dark but it looks great in person. I am just glad I got it installed because it looked funny to me with the AE pedals but no dead pedal to match.
Anyway here is the pic. Again the carpet is messy and I aint cleaning it because I am putting my black carpet in. I am just going to throw it away so why waste any time on it.

The pedals look great.
Are those rivets, screws or nuts with bolts holding it down?
I just wonder why you put the dead pedal in when you are going to have to take it off when you put in the new carpet?

Thanks,
they are screws with backing on them. It wasnt in a good spot to mount it to metal so I just installed it through the carpet and put nuts (not actually nuts but the plastic pieces that the screws go into on the factory piece) on them.
It only took a minute to put in (after forming it to the contour of the area) and I can take it out easily when I swap carpets. Besides I wanted to be first
lol.
I thought about cutting it down because its so long but havent decided on that yet.

Yeah I hid that just for you
.Call Kaleb up. I think its $15 on the site but he let me have it for $13 something. I got some other stuff at the same time so I wasnt worried about shipping but I think they may have a minimum shipping charge. It may actually be cheaper to get it from your local dealer.
So Michael,
I have the dead pedal sitting in my car. Did you use any of the plastic backing it came with? The thing is, on my car there is already a plastic pad dead pedal, and so if I just use the metal portion of the 350Z dead pedal, the plastic pad can be seen through the holes and it looks like $hit. SO I was trying to figure out a way to cut the plastic portion down to get it to fit in the car cleanly. Any advice?

I cut it down so much that all I had left was a thin floppy piece of plastic with the grippy things on it.
I first cut it down but then it was too thick so I took the grinder out and ground the plastic down until it was really thin. That made it fit pretty nice.
There is another way to make it fit though. If you dont want it so thin you can just cut the whole plastic piece where the aluminum that turns down. That will give you a thick piece and you will have to use a heat gun or something to form the plastic to the contour but I think it can be done. OR you can make an outline of the area and transfer it to the plastic piece. That way the pedal will remain strait and the plastic will take up the extra space on the floor (molded to the contour if you will). That is a real good way to do it but I wasnt sure how it would look or work out.
I just like the thin way better.
I had that plastic dead pedal too but I just pulled it off instead of drilling holes through it.
*Bump*
OK, so I finished installing mine today, thanks to the advice of Michael. I didn't shave mine as drastically as he did, mine ended up looking like this:

I then cut off 4 of the 5 screw backings to use to secure the piece. I bought longer screws, and drilled holes in the carpet (the bottom right screw was too short to secure to the carpet because the contour changed there, but it didn't matter since my foot rests on the top half of the pedal anyway). I pulled back the carpet and twisted the backings onto the screws protruding through the carpet. I then used pliers to hold the backings in place and screwed the screws into the backings so they were nice and tight. I ended up having to take the kick panel and the door sill off to pull the carpet off properly, no big deal.
Here is the final result:

I apologize for the picture quality, but the screen on my digicam died after I dropped it and so I can't switch to macro mode anymore
Note: Michael's dead pedal appears to have only 4 screws on it (4 corners) while mine has an extra screw in the middle (which I utilized in securing the plate to the carpet). There could be a subtle difference between the 350Z and G35 dead pedals. Who knows.
Total time: ~1.5 hours for the dremeling, test fitting, hardware store run, and install.
Cost $15
Worth it? Of course!

Mine has 5 also. Look in the middle of mine. I used a black screw like the factory piece so it would blend in
...spare no detail lol.
Looks good...I cant decide which I like better...strait like that or contoured like I did mine.
