Are there any known problems in this area ? The car only has 15K miles on it. I plan to take it to the dealer, but I'd like to know in advance if this is a known issue of any sort.

thanks,
Bob

Do you really only notice it when the car is cold? If you do, then it is normal.

I have a 99 GXE auto, smooth shifting for me. I would suggest changing ATF but since your car has only 15K, I'm sure it's still ok. Yes, take it to the dealer, still under warranty. If they tell you something unusual, post it on the forum and see if anyone can help.

The '99 Maxima factory service manual says that too sharp a shock in the 1-2 shift may be caused by ...
1) throttle position switch adjustment
2) transmission fluid line pressure
3) accumulator servo release
4) control valve assembly
5) ATF fluid temperature sensor

The FSM suggests these items be checked in the order specified.

Where do I go to read the computer codes ?

I suppose I should check them before I bring this to the dealer so I know what's what. But, I'm flying blind here since I don't have my factory manual yet.

Is there a web page that describes the code reading procedure for this model ?

thanks,
Bob

You will find instructions to do a DTC readout and reset
the Check Engine light at:
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

The DTC "translations" are found at:

Thanks... one more ECU question...

Will the computer store codes without lighting the check engine light i.e. should I bother to check it even if the light is off ?

thanks,

I don't think so... but I don't know for sure.

Why not? It's easy enough.

I have this problem on my 97 GXE auto 79k miles. I tried changing to Synthetic ATF but that did not really help.

How much did it cost to replace the transmission control and the solenoid?
