Came across this article about how the New Accord V6 will have 240hp and that more may be on tap if needed......check it out..........http://www.autonews.com/html/main/stories/laconf427.htm
Honda could easily blow Nissan out of the water with hp... all they would have to do is jack the type s engine and stick it into a honda but I doubt that they would do that to the type s name...Probly a d-tuned type s.
Nissan needs to bust out some more turbo cars, screw the n/a crap... I wanna see a sr20det in a new 240 or sumthing, they need to stop messin around and ship us some of the good ish.
What happen to Mitsu in all this?? I heard they are bringin the Lancer over with 125hp hahahahaha (popular mechanics mag, dont ask why i was reading that one...)

I am wondering how accurate the 240HP is in the new Altima. . . Remember it will essentially be the same engine that is in the next Maxima and the new Z, both which are estimated to have 260HP. Nissan may be underrating it's power so as not to **** other comsumers off, it has been known to happen in the past with other car companies.
Also they have yet to say if the next Accord will have a 5-speed. . . If not then I don't think they have a chance. While the Accord might have and still has about the same HP as the current Maxima, most 5-speeds have no problem taking one.

Even if Honda eeks out more power than Nissan, it'll be with smaller displacement engines (like the 3.2 V6), so rest assured that comparable Nissan engines will be far tourqier.
BTW if the SR20DET was in a Nissan coupe it would be a "200", not "240", which had the KA24DE under the hood

Nissan can detune the VQ if they want to. Just like GM does with the LS-1s and LT-1s used in other cars besides the Corvette. GM makes sure that their flagship has the highest horsepower rating in the company, even though the same engine is used in other cars.

Yeah, I realize that this is the case, but it also means that if they want the HP title, the engine can be tweaked to give it the power it needs to win the title. I am sure that they can tune this engine to get a lot more than the 260HP estimated in the other cars anyway, but they might as well start slow and then build up later.

Exactly. That will allow Nissan to continue to generate buzz every year as they release more and more horsepower, especially with Limited Editions and stuff, rather than hit with everything they have at the beginning of the production cycle and then get forgotten for the next 3 years.
honda honda honda..i read in motor Trend the new 2002 SI might sport the integra motor =200 hp..whew!thats pretty good, the si will be starting at 18k.. the the other option i think was a 1.8L motor pushing 160 or so..i forgot.. well its still very good for a 4 banger
Torque Sucks

- Ever wonder why a 4th gen makes no real power after 5 grand? It's because there is more torque than horsepower. Thus, the engine can't make any power after the magical 5252 rpm mark.
- Besides, switching to a 3.5L engine in the near future is most likely going to be accomplished by stroking the engine, not boring it out. Again, more torque, but not a lot of hp. You lose revs and higher rpm pull (I have no idea why the Z Concept had a redline mark at 7 grand - at this rate, it won't have any power after 5 grand anyway). Any Nissan 3.5L cars will jump off the line (or waste their tires), then fade back into traffic towards the crappy Musclecar era where nothing revved.
- Just for a "for instance." My Miata-driving friend recently had this hp/torque discussion with a Camaro lover. He found some video of a turbocharged Miata with less than 400hp that could run a sub-10 second quarter mile. And that was with STREET TIRES and a FULL INTERIOR!!! The musclecars with 600+hp/800+lb-ft that tried to race him couldn't rev as high (no power or they flat out break past 5000rpm), necessitating shifting early or gearing very high. Plus, all that wheel-spin from the damn torque raises times.
- Stupid Americans love torque because it makes them FEEL fast. Believe me, if you TRULY want to go fast, you want the pure horsies, not the poseur effect of tire-smoking torque.

Torque is good. The only reason an F1 car makes so much power is because it revs to well over 10,000rpm and manages to breathe efficiently. yay.

Yeah. Plus, who the hell wants to drive around with the engine at 18,000rpm all the time? OK for a race car, not a street car. In real-world driving, it's torque that gets the job done. When a car spends most of its time below 3500rpm, a huge peak horsepower number doesn't matter much if there isn't much low-end. It's nice to have an engine that pulls well all the way to redline, but nobody's gonna drive around at redline all the time just to use the peak horsepower constantly.
that is so true, i have driven an si and that car has the same amount of hp as my car, i have a vg but my car is an automatic and the si's is a manuel. the si is faster then my car but my vg is way torqueier (sp?) then the b16. probably because mine is a v6 but you get the idea.
