need help on fixing a sagging front passenger door on 90 se.
or should i just replace the hinges

 

Some bright genius here invented new coin usage: loosen lower hinge bolts and throw one between hinge and door frame.

Or just once in a lifetime go to stealership: this problem is just right size for 'em...

[PITA: buy hinge pins and its 'bearings' and hammer old out, new in]

 

i had the same thing, and all i did was replace the hinges.
I bought them from nissan dealer..pretty cheap (40-50)CAD per set.

 

my driver door sags, because the pin is shot. is that right, you can hammer the pin out and put a new one in? oh right, i see: PITA. i had trouble getting to the lower hinge to unbolt them because the fender is in the way...how should i go about getting it off? i can get the upper hinge off, just not the lower one.

 

gotta take fron fender off first....REPLACE THE HINGES!

WARNING!!!!!!!!

The easiest way to fix this is to check the bushings and pins on the hinges first. And it's easy as hammering out the old ones and installing the new ones...

But remember this, the doors are heavy... REALLY HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!! You can get away with slowly sliding the door back, with it supported by a movable jack. But it is wise to have someone else around. AND A JACK. The doors a pain once to get back on once you get them off if you don't.

 

i have trouble closing my driver rear dood i have to slam it pretty hard for it to close. does anyone know whats up with that?

 

If the door is not sagging, visually check that the latch part on chassis frame travels into the door lock middle, not hitting up/lower edge of lock assy on door. Adjust the latch part on chassis.

Lock lubrication with lithium spray.

 

I cannot remember for sure, considering I'm not around to run out an look at my max. But every door has the latch and stricker plate. Some vehicles the striker plate can be loosenend and adjusted so that it goes squarely into the latch. You can peek in between the door and the side, seeing how the door approaches the stricker plate.

But I'm not sure if the stricker plate can be adjusted. Usually it requires a large star socket to loosen it.

If it can't be adjusted, then the bushings, pin, or hinges are bad
