My adventures in SVT/SHO Land.
There is a national SVT Contour meeting in my city this weekend (Kalamazoo, Michigan). i'd say close to 100 SVTs and probably 15 SHOs stuck in for good measure, plus a couple modded Foci (plural Focus) and brand new Cobra R. Well, naturally i eventually ended up at a light next to one of each (SVT Contour and SHO, not the cobra R hehe). First up was a silver SVT Contour, exhaust being the only visible mod (are there any others besides lowering springs?). Well obviously the light eventually turned green and we were off... pretty even through first, i may have pulled a couple feet on him. When i hit second the max started pulling more, and by about 85 in third i'd pulled 1.5-2 lengths. i shut it down at about 85 (well not really, but i stopped racing). he just kept on flyin, a little mad that he got beaten at his own meet.
Next was a silver SHO Taurus 5 speed ~1993, not the OLD style, but not the UFO lookin egg-shaped ones either. i noticed him flying up on my *** and as the light turned red he got in the lane next to me (i was delivering pizza this night, and its right near the hotel they are all staying at). So, we both gave eachother the evil eye, and soon the race was on. It was a dead heat through 1st, (they have a taller 1st gear than us, he shifted to second about 1-2 seconds after i did, i could tell from his tire barking.) Through second it was more of the same... we kept looking over at eachother only to see the other guy right there... When i hit third the Max put on its walkin shoes, and started to pull. by about 6000 rpms in third i'd pulled about three quarters to 1 full length on the guy, just enough so he knew he was beaten... I followed him into the parking lot of the hotel they are all staying at, and noticed a 2000 Max SE modded in there. Turns out he's on the boards here, Foglght is his handle i believe. I talked to the Maxima driver, Ryan, and met another maxima driver, Brian, who has a 96 GXE. The 2 maxima guys thrown in with the horde of SVT SHO guys was a nice surprise. We are all going AutoXing tomorrow (sunday), thats basically what the SVT guys were here for. Well, i'm not racing, because my brakes that i ordered 4 weeks and 2 days ago still havent arrived, and my current brakes are basically non-existent. I'll post up here and let everyone know how the Max's fared against the SVTs and whatever else is at the AutoX.
