Mizeree, that's alll powdercoating. several coats. royal PITA. I had the valve cover done, but had too much dust in it so I've got to sandblast it down and do it again.. and again... and again.. ugh.

I'm working on the IM spacers. ran out of time to do it all this week, as I've got an Auto X tomorrow and had to get the car back together. finally got it running at 9pm tonight. have to leave at 7am tomorrow!

Shawn, shaddup. I lost the OE one at the track a couple months ago and just picked that crappy one up at oriellys so I could keep racing.. haven't gotten around to putting another OE one back on.

wow.. beautiful. now it's time to get the "Twin Cam 24 Valve V6 3000" a few touch ups. u can use the color of the car for the background and pick a custom color for the lettering. Maybe the same color as you used for the project.

I have a spare valve cover (and oil cap) in the shop. I just kept screwing up the powder on the valve cover and didn't finish it in time to put the car back together for my autocross today. I'll swap it out whever I get to that. and I'm going to have a custom plate done on it as well. not sure what color or design on it, but there will be something 'interesting' on it.


cheezer, that's my old EGR. I powdercoated it as well. the top part I did in silver, and the bottom part that usually gets all rusty was done in gloss black.

subs, yes I built a sandblasting cabinet.
505Max, I removed it because we were having some flooding a while back and I had to drive the car through some deeep water in order to get out of the track I was running at that day. I liked the sound better than the CAI, so I left it like that. don't really see any difference in power to speak of.

Mike, it's eastwoods "Argent Silver" powdercoat.. looks really good when you get it on smooth, but I never could.
mix it with a little bit of black and it makes a beautiful gunmetal color:

Is it from the gun spitting or just oil that wasnt cleaned off good?

You might get a good filter set up (if you dont already). I got a cheap one from harbor freight but it does the job. Its big and works great but is only around $20 when they go on sale.

Also you have to put the filter 50' away for it to work properly. I have not had any problems with water or oil since putting my cheap filter in EXCEPT when running my DA a lot (where the compressor is running constantly and building a lot of heat).

I always drain and use a different hose when painting.

 

Yeah, I've changed my setup and the powder since then. haven't had any fisheyes since then, but now I have the dust problem!

i think the fisheyes in the powder were from something in the powder itself- as soon as I switched to a newer container, the eyes went away.

I also installed the new air compressor and have a commercial filter/dryer/oiler on it now. I T'd off the line just after the dryer and have a second regulator on it for dry non-oiled air. I installed a second, dedicated hose on it as well so I don't have to worry about the hose itself being contaminated..

looks like price on the spacer is going to be $40 after I buy the new longer bolts that go with it...

supposed to add a bit of power, and I think it certainly did after the ECU compensated.
I didn't htink it did anything at first, but I only fired it up last night. got about 70 miles on it today going to the track and back. on the way there, it felt like normal.. on the way home, I stuck the cruise button on and when I hit the ACCEL button, it threw my head back in my seat.
Since my wife was with me, I couldn't really flog it the rest of the way home, but I definitely think it's good for a couple-few HP, especially in the midrange power.

 

What does a tb spacer actually do, i now know the benefits, but how does it achieve them?

 

Yeah i would like to know how it works too. WOuld it help for a turbo vg. NOt that I have one.

i just noticed that to hes gota have somthign up his sleeve cause you dont just throught one of those on without the need to go FAST

 

the FMU is for a turbo project that's been in "sit on the shelf until I have more money" mode for about two years. I installed it a couple years ago, along with my gauges, and was hoping to have the turbo on and running way back then. turns out there were some flaws in the kit and the turbo was too small to work well on the VE (I was using a Z31 T3 at the time, which has shown to run out of breath about 5500rpm on a VE. on a VG it's fine due to the lower flow through the engine from the SOHC setup.).

Sooo, I have been trying to build up funds for a proper sized turbo and I'm going to change my manifold design as well.... and I just haven't had the time or money to finish the project.

Thus the reason I have the FM just sitting in the engine bay and my TiAL wastegate in the garage collecting dust.

Kudoo's Matt. Keep up the ideas. Any thoughts on either/both spacers fitting the 4th gen? What size is the 3rd gen TB? 60mm? The .org looked at the idea of the IM spacer for the A32 but consensus was the stock unit couldn't be improved much. If you've got spare phenolic and tools I'd be willing to pay for a custom job just to try things.

Looks good Matt, as all of your other mods do! Will you be producing the spacers soon? I assume you are referring to the exhaust manifold in your last post. What kind of design are you thinking about? I'm curious as I have a little turbo project in the works also... always interesting to see what others are doing! Keep up the good work.
