Tranny Noise/Thump?

Just prior to coming to a complete stop I can hear a slight thump coming from the center console. I thought it was something that I had put in the storage compartment, but I emptied it out and still have the same noise. I can actually feel thump in the shift selector. I have tried slipping the tranny into neutral before stopping, but still get the same thump. It seems to be slightly louder when cold. Just checking to see if anyone is experiencing a similar issue. Don’t know if this is normal for the Max or not. I haven’t taken it into the dealer yet, wanted to get some input first.

I bet it is the shift lock. While the car is moving, you do not want to accidentally shift from D to R by accident. This "click" I think is the lock disengaging so you can shift from drive to reverse.

My Max and my wife's Murano do it. I think it is normal, but let us know what the dealer says.

Thanks - sounds like a reasonble explanation. I'll see what the dealer comes up with.

I can also feel the slight thump or click on acceleration though it is not as noticeable as when coming to a stop. If you really get on the accelerator fast after a complete stop it feels like the tranny kind-of slips.

Hmm... just out of curiosity, how many of you guys who are having the "tranny-slip" feelings own SE's (or SL's with 5 speed transmissions)? If you have the 5-speed, is it pre or post date of TSB for harsh shifting?

i have 04 SE and im feelings that slip after i put it in gear and when i put it in drive and when it up[shifts to a higher gear.. i feel that slip of the tranny... so i dont know if its just me. i think alot of people have this same problem with the transmission sliping on the SE model my friend has an of 04 SL and got it the same day as me. and he has not had a problem with the tranny slipping. my neighbor has an 04 SE and he feels it every so often. is this a problem on all the SE models?

Could be... although if your tranny is old enough, might this be addressed under the TSB for harsh shifting when cold?
