What other cars can I get a 5 speed transmission from to replace in my 97 maxima

I need a new transmission for my 1997 maxima SE 5 speed. They want $1900 to rebuild mine, is that to much for our transmission? I am looking for a used one also but haven't had much luck. Can someone tell me some other cars in which I could use their transmission to replace mine? 300ZX maybe??

None, 300ZX is a rear wheel drive. 1900 for what? a complete rebuild?

00-01 Max. AE being the one to look for. Or 95-01 I30. I'm not sure, but either some or all come with VLSD.

altima transmissions are a possibility. Someone said they don't fit but he had no proof of it.

Altima transmissions are not a possibility. There's no proof that Corvette transmissions dont fit either. What about a Ferrari F550?

1900 for a complete rebuild with a long warranty might not be so bad if you're planning on keeping the car. I'm sure you can find a place thats a little cheaper.

Did you ask how much for just a removal, REPAIR, and reinstallation?

Sometimes only one thing goes bad and they say they rebuild the entire tranny. When it only needs a repair.

Give that a shot. Depending where you live, 1900 may be your only option. I know in New York you can get $500 transmission jobs (Shea stadium) and then you can get $2500 transmission jobs (AAMCO).

$1900 seems steep.

a decent rebuild shouldnt cost more than 1200 with all parts and labor. if so you supply the parts the most they can charge for labor should be 600 bucks.

If you get new/used instead of rebuilding, you can get an 00 for sure - but I never heard of an 01 fitting (or not fitting for that matter ... just never heard of anyone using one). Also ... why do you say the AE trans is the one to get? What's different? I didn't realize there were differences.

I didn't know that corvette and ferrari transmissions have the same part numbers as a maxima? Hmm, maybe I'll get he one from the gallardo and see if it fits. Shut up! Did you try it? No. Until someone actually proves it doesn't fit keep your mouth shut. If there is proof, great, let me see. Till then , shut it.

Who's the idiot? Thats a good way to live life. Go with things unless there's proof it doesnt work.

This guy came here asking for advice not your stupid twisted logic. When you feel like an idiot do you usually flame others?

altima bellhousing is different

Maxima tranny is the same as the U13 stanza, its from the mid 1980s... but all of those earlier trannies have different bellhousings and only the Maxima ones are compatible

i believe thats correct

I've gotten no quotes, but that was the ballpark I expected for a transmission replacement in our cars, probably using a tranny from a junk yard or something.

Thanks for all your help everyone. My mechanic found a used tranny with 40k on it for $700 and he is going to charge $300 for the install. My car has 100K on it right now so I think this should last me. I just wish my max would run right from now on. I have had the car for 16 weeks and out of that time it has only been drivable for 9 weeks.

Nice, when nothing better to do, resort to name calling. I'll try to remember that when that mature age of 28 rolls around.
