Hey all,

I have a 98 SE 5spd. If I rev my engine in neutral (standing still) with the clutch engaged or disengaged, I hear a high-pitched whine that sounds like its coming from the engine bay. It's not noticeable after ~1700 rpms as the engine noise drowns it out. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks!

 

could be a vacuum line

did you install an intake recently?

 

just a guess, the voltage regulator in the alternator could be going and straining the alternator....most parts stores will check your charging system for free.

I had simillar noise few weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad alternator.
