Is it worth installing a cold air intake?

I'm thinking of buying a cold air intake of of ebay and just replacing the filter with a K&N. Is it worth doing it? For those who have done this same thing, is there a noticatle difference over the stock intake?

No difference, 2-3 hp. I know I can't feel that, can you? Not worth any kind of money unless you just want it for the noise and looks. It depends on what you want out of it but performance-wise, its not worth it. You'll get better performance with the stock intake + K&N panel filter. There's more info in the stickies.

GET full cold air, get place racing , you WILL feel it. Its a real cold air intake not fake like injen.

Intake manufacturers tend to over-exaggerate gains whether its CAI or HAI. Here are some facts about them.

Personally, no the CAI is not worth the time or the money. Power gains, no its not worth it either. Looks department you may like it better, sound wise maybe you will too. Still the best overall intake is a plain and simple Stillen/JWT POP charger.

IIRC there was a dyno posted not too long ago that showed a power loss using the JWT compared to stock.

hmmm if those who really want a CAI that bad, just get one off of ebay. same setup as place racing at a fraction of the cost. just replace filter. plus, they say theres really no big improvement except sound. well IMHO, i don't think you'll be able to notice performance wise diff between the CAI and stock airbox other than sound of course. but yeh, $50 total is not bad at all for an intake.

I wdnt say its worthless. I have had 3 maximas. Each time i have modded the intake and exhaust. I always did the SRI intake first then the exhaust last. Each time the car wd pull harder up top.

On the third max, after much debate here on the org, i was determined to not mod the car or at least leave the stock intake alone. So a wk passes that i owned the car and i was all itchy with the mod bug lol so the exhaust got modded. The car was breathing better and running harder in the high rpms, but from my experience with my first two maximas, i knew modding the intake wd make the car pull even harder! So after much soul searching, I modded the intake. And u know what, it does pull harder up top. Sounds killer too.

I guess he means almost up top because it starts to fall flat after 5k. A Y pipe makes a things a little better though. The Mevi was nice when it worked. I know there was always a suspicion that the switch wouldn't get a signal while in drive but it did while in park. When it didn't work, it was worse than stock.

I've recently installed a Injen CAI and it feels like I've lost power on low end. *Sigh* I wish I found this tread 3 weeks ago.
