About to hit the big 200,000

I've got about another 2 months before I hit 200,000 miles on my baby.

What should I do when it hits that mark? Plugs just got replaced, oil is changed every 3,000 anyway, all the filters are new.
I just feel that I am missing something.

I think maybe I might throw a party. Get a banner "200,000 and still going stronger than your Ford"

I don't know. I can't believe it's gone so quick. In the last 6 months I've put 30,000 miles on my car. *sob* The memories.

I hope it lasts me for another 6 months with no problems. I am still saving up to have Tilley do the swap.

There's nothing to cry about! Instead you should be

Are you serious that you put on 30k in 6 months?!? That's 1200 miles per week! And I thought I was crazy for putting on 14k in 6 months

What have you had to replace so far (aside from perfomance mods)? My poor maxi only has 120k and I've replaced 1 driver side axle, 2 pass side axles, 1 wheel bearing, 1 starter, and one totally dead camshaft position sensor so far... or at least that's all I can remember

O2 sensor, Cam Shaft Sensor, Knock Sensor, Plugs, Pressure Sensor.

That's it.

It needs new brake pads and an alignment soon.

check the tranny fluid, if it looks a little brownish replace it

other than that you shouldn't have to do too much more, just keep driving

i would go for the drain and replace, and it do it 3 or 4 times then you won't have to break the seal on your tranny pan and replace that gasket

I agree. If you do the routine maintenance, it should see the 200,000 mark with no problems and keep going strong.
Before I pulled my last motor out, it had 214,000 and ran very good. My maxima has never given me any major issues.
Just the common items that an older car has to have replaced.
Battery
Alternator
Starter
CV boots
AC Compressor
Clutch
Those are the only things that have gone "out" on me.

Man! I am just blown away by the reliability of the Maxima! I just turned 100,000 miles and will be paying my Maxima off next month. She is still running great with no problems. I have always wondered if there actually was a car out there that was this reliable and I am so glad that I finally own one. I hope to be driving my car another 100,000 miles or more, just so that I can brag about it's reliability!!!

I am suuuuper happy with my car. My friends made fun of me for buying a "grocery getter" at first, and now that is has outlived their fords, hondas, chevy, ect. They are like "Hey, can you come get me" or "Yeah! We can go - you can drive, we'll give you gas money"

Bishes. They should have bought a Maxima.
I would love to be able to see 300,000 out of this engine, but I am getting the 3.5 swap before that ever happens. I am going to push it for the next 6 months as far as I can though

Congrats on the milestone(200k)!! You shouldn't have any problems out of your max because you're driven the S**T out of it. Thats the way you get to 300k. The ones that have a lot of problems are those that have low mileage Max's.
102k on my 99!!

187k on the '96. Only problems have been leaking oil pressure sending unit and water pump. Oops, I left out the broken cig lighter clip and the ever tempermental bose cd player. Now, really that's it.

Wish my 2k had so few problems.

If you do the 60k mile service every 60k miles, then you are due for your 3rd one. So you do this: http://web.archive.org/web/200111091...k_service.html .

Out of curiosity, I'd do a compression test just to give you a good idea of what is going on inside the engine.

There should be a 200,000 club ...... hehehh

A compression test? How do you go about doing that? I was unable to view the webpage for some reason, so if it states in there, I'm sorry. Is there any way you could copy and paste the context of the webpage into here?

if you are getting a 3.5 put in there is no point to do a compression check.. i had one done on mine and it was like the engine was like brand new still. i have a 99 with 138k

Works for me! Try copying the link and pasting it in the address box of your web browser. I can't copy and past all contents in here because it contains photos. Besides, this is already in the stickies. For compression test, you can have a shop do it, or you can do it yourself but you have to buy a compression test kit or borrow from someone from the org that has one that lives locally. You should be able to find one at your local auto parts store if you want to buy one.

Is your car and automatic or a 5-speed? Have you checked the 2 belts lately, as well as the fuel filter? What about flushing the radiator and replacing the coolant?

I have a 95 SE (5-speed) with under 57,000 mostly highway miles on it. I had the gear oil in the transaxle replaced on Tuesday just for the hell of it. I didn't have any problems but I figured it had been in there long enough as I have owned the car since new.

At the rate I am going the car will outlive me, lol! It still runs like new.

good stuff, Jinni .. hope it lasts you to 300K

I have over 118K on my '98 and I've pretty much shelled out over $2,000 in maintenance & repairs to restore this max, considering my brother was the original owner and is negligent .. this max is pretty much a handdown. I also leased a '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee, despite being a Lime, i like it, nice winter driver, so I'm paying for the Jeep, and the Max is a companion car to it

I'm gonna check into the compression test thing just for the hell of it. I'd like to see what condition this engine is in after all this time. It sounds good, there is very slight engine noise, but I guess that should be expected

There are some people that have driven the hell outta their Maximas
And to think when I bought my car the car dealer said he'd put someone in a Chevy before a Maxima and he said I was crazy for buying it. What a moron.
