I did a search and couldn't find any posts on this...

I have a '97 Maxima SE.
I also have a V1 radar detector.
I bought a remote display for it
and was thinking of running the wire up [under]
the driver's side A pillar and under the header.

• Anybody try this?

• How hard is it to remove and replace?

• How do you do it?

Thanks

I did this when I got my V1, it's pretty easy.

First, you need to pull up the plastic kick panel at the bottom of the door. This is held on by three snaps.

Next, pull the weatherstripping off of the front edge, starting from the bottom. You just need to expose the edge of the A-pillar.

Once the A-pillar cover is exposed, you can pull it off. It's also just held in by a couple of snaps (two IIRC).

You can then run the wire under the cover, and then snap it back into place. I was also able to tuck it under the headliner pretty nicely too without any trouble.

As with anytime you're pulling things off that are held on by snaps, be a little careful.

Hope this helps.

Piece of cake - 1st pull off the big rubber

moulding that goes around the a pillar. Don't worry, it will snap back on. Start by you feet, and remove till you've cleared the a-pillar.

Then, pry the a-pillar off with a screw driver, starting at thew bottom. Again, don't worry, because nothing should break, and it will snap back on.

I tapped into my lighter in the console, and ran the wire inside the a-pillar. Then I pushed it inside the headliner by the top of the windshield.

Slick looking, and handy.

Reverse the steps, and you're done!

Power from fuse bolck?

Thanks for the help guys.
I was planning to mount the remote for the V1 just to the left
of the gage console/steering wheel, between the 2 vents.
I thought I might be able to get my power from the fuse block
by the driver's left knee.

Anybody ever try that?

I was able to do that with my install.

First, I attached a spade connector to the direct wire kit that comes with the V1. It's been a while, but I think that I just snipped the end off of the wire you use to hook into a hot wire for power, exposed some copper, and then crimped a spade connector on.

I plugged the spade connector into the fourth fuse holder down in the first column of fuses. On my car, this was empty. From looking at the wiring diagrams, I don't believe it's used for anything plus it has power when other accessories are on.

I also attached the ground to one of the bolts under the dash. After that, I just crammed all the wires up under there and put the covers back on.

Make sure you get a connector that will fit tightly into the fuse block.

Hope this helps...

One last thing. I'm not positive, but I think I cut off half of the spade connect and only plugged it into the hot side of the empty fuse socket.
