minor accident, expensive repair!

had a terrible accident a few weeks back from being careless, was backing from my driveway and car ran into my fence door from not being opened all the way. anyway, busted my rearview mirror and put a minor dent on passenger door and a dent on the front panel. paint from the fence got on part of the door and fender, but very minor, no paint came off, except two minor ones that are very small near top of fender. the mirror i can do myself, anyway, took it to a body shop for how much to fix and they told me it will cost $1225.80 not including tax. just wanted to know if this is reasonable?

included pix of the damage, dent in front fender, and a very slight dent on door and busted front of the plastic on the door, seems pretty high for something so minor. they are charging me $244 for parts, $450 for 9 hrs body labor, $385 for 7.7 hrs of paint labor, and $138 for 7.7 hrs of paint supplies. this seems just a bit high for something not so major. is this reasonable, never had any body work done so i don't know much about how these things should be priced.

have some more pics on last page of my cardomain page
thanks

i dont have any personal experience with it, but i have friends who do. By the looks of that, you can bust that dent out yourself. If you want it flawless looking, maybe youll need to get it professionally done, but u can get some touch up paint and suction cups or somethign for the dent. Always start with the cheapest option. If you try doin it, and you mess it up...dont sweat it cuz u can still get it fixed. Better to try it yourself and mess up rather then just going straight to repair shop and payin too much $. That price does also seem a bit steep. A few years ago i had 2 dents from rocks and a new quarter panel replaced for about $1700 on my oldsmobile.

Thats not too bad. Here is what my body shop wants 4K to fix. My dumbass backed into a stop sign somehow. It is almost like yours but mine is on the rear quarter. I have it fixed now for I'm waiting on the body shop to paint it. I gave the guy $300 to do the body work and the shop wants $800 to paint it. So that is saving me almost 3 thousand bucks. IMO you should try to find someone that knows how to do it and pay them then just get it painted.

Those are before here is after.

Suction cups are worthless.. don't waste your time. They don't create enough suction to pull out the dents.

Yeah if it has any crease in it and you can't get at it with anything then you really need to use a dent puller. Mine was that way it didn't look too bad but when you got it out with any thing other then the puller it popped back in.

I had my wholse side changed and painted. Front fender, 2 door panels and rear fender around wheel was all scratched up and a little dented. I went to 3 other places and they all said around $2200 and more. I fixed all of that plus repainted my front and rear bumpers for $1100 or $1200 in cash. Its been on my car for more then have a year and it seems to be good. People can't tell that it was in an accident. By the way its also black. So shop around and don't give up.
If you would want to go to this place, give me a PM and I'll give you an adress, but its in Jersey. About 20 mins from Lincoln Tunell.

Go to Frame Auto Collision. Look it up.

Denton Avenue. New Hyde Park NY.

Ask for Hugo. Tell him you're Andy's friend. Andy with the Infiniti. Tall Andy.

He will work with you.

The fender needs to be replaced from what I can see. The cost of a nissan fender is about $50 aftermarket. You can get one for $35 if you look.

Hugo might be able to bang it out. They do good work.

Let me know how it goes

Why did you only get one estimate? Get at least 3 or 4. Then let them know what others are doing and get them to earn your business. 1200 sounds about right for what you have done there. My dad is a mechanic at a paint and body shop in Houston, and it isn't cheap for them to work on cars. Be more careful next time.

tnks for the input guys, i'm gonna take it to a few other shops this weekend, wanna keep it around brooklyn though. need the car right now for school and probably won't get it fixed till spring break at end of march. i just wanted to explore my options first. do you guys know how hard it will be to change a front fender and align it on my own? might just get an aftermarket one and then have it repainted. dunno about the door yet, but damage is not that major, besides the plastic molding.

It'll take any shop at least 2 days if you want it done right. You can change the fender yourself without a problem. There's not much to align. Bolt off bolt on.

I just saw your screen name. You go to stonybrook?

Is that place still a miserable hell hole? The commuters are hot though.
