Heeeere's yur sign? LOL
Heeeere's yur sign? LOL
Yep, that would be me with the "Stupid" sign on my back.
On Jan. 11th I purchased my 1999 White SE-L with 34,642 miles on it from a dealer that was asking $14,995, I paid 12,750.00. I think it's the first time I've ever willingly bent over for something in my life. I offered 12,500 knowing I would be paying high retail, but they did put new tires (Goodyear Eagle RSA's) :P on it and new pads on all four. However, on pick up day I felt like a big putz after seeing the trade in write up that only had them offering $8,000 on the trade in. No, they didn't let me see it officially, but when the sales guy went outside to talk to another customer he was dealing with, my file was on his desk. I assumed my paperwork was in it and opened it up, voila! there sits the trade in sheet listing the peoples address (local) and offer. So there I sit feeling like a fish (four pounder from what my ex car salesmen friend said, LOL). Do I back out and find something else? Or do I go ahead and buy it? Aaaaarggghh.
Well, obviously I bought it. I loved the way it drove and it looked brand new. The previous owner tinted the windows and also had those black/smoke window things, I thought, OK, just how many 99 SE-L's are for sale with this mileage and condition? Not many. Did I pay a premium? Yes indeed. Do I care? Not much. I'm sure I could have waited to see if the car sat for a while on the lot (it was there less than a week) and negotiated more. But I loved the car, wanted it, and didn't want to take the chance it would dissappear.
So, stick the stupid sign on my back? Probably, lol, car salesmen love guys like me.
The bright side? I'm now the owner of my first really nice car and it's a Maxima, which I've loved and followed for years. I'm in the Maxima club!! Whoo hoo! I may be stupid, but I'm performing a public service. It's guys like me that make guys who get great deals feel better. LOL No, that's OK, you don't have to thank me.

Thanks for the welcome ya'll.
I bought the car from Bob Ross Used Cars in Centerville, OH. I'm really trying to figure out why someone would trade in such a nice car for a Buick? They must be old and ALMOST as stupid as me. I nominate them for a sign as well.
As far as the knock sensor or coil packs go, what will tell me that they need replaced? How much do they cost? Is it better to replace them in advance or just wait until they fail? Could they have already been replaced? How would I know?
I'll post pics when I can.
Thanks again

w/ a bad knock sensor, you'll likely have some decresed engine performance, esp. hesitiation
w/ bad coil packs, you'll experience some heavy duty shuddering at idle, along w/ a flashing SES light, ask a lot of '99 owners, they'll tell you pretty much the same thing

thers a lot of threads around here about the coil packs, read up. they usually go out around 60-80k, a problem nissan should have addressed long ago, they will run you 6-700$ to replace all six. your better off waiting until they go out (or at least one of them) before replacement. about the same mileage when the ks goes out, that one runs you 1-200$ depending on where you pick it up. just a couple of things to look out for.

Ya see its the mafia, we got your back. I pay 14k for my 97 max with 28k miles back in feb 02'. I was only 17 then and didn't know much about cars, they took me to town those stealerships. Lower mile maxes cost alot, but old dude was the only driver and my car runs great but putting on my new y pipe makes my front 02 sensor to keep tripping my CEL.

FYI, you are WAY off. At regular dealer price, you WILL ALWAYS find coil packs for $75 per coil. True, some dealers charge up to $90+ per coil, but that's simply being stupid. So, at the very worst (no discount etc.) you should pay no more than $75 x 6 = $450 and that's still a very sh!tty deal.Pinnacle Nissan has them for an unbelievable $56.52 (left) and $58.88 (right). Price is same for mitsu or hanshin. So you end up paying 56.52 x 3 + 58.88 x 3 = $346.20!!!!!! ....for all six! Fine, add in the $15 or $20 shipping.
I can't believe you people still shell out $600-700 for all coil packs. That's just stupid, very stupid.
