I've recently noticed I've got a little bit of noise when i stop - not screaching, but squeaking is maybe a better term? ANyway, my 2002 is coming up on almost 70k, so I'm thinking that I probably need new pads. What type do you guys recommend? Anything specific? Thanks

i just did my brakes yesterday...i bought the ones from autozone theyre called duralast very good stopping power no noise. not expensive you dont need $100 brake pads to stop well. MAKE SURE you spray silicone spray not WD-40 on the cylinder boot when you turn it and push it in or it might pop out...happened to me needed new calipers. good luck

Hawk HPS from TireRack, these suckas will never warp your rotors. Stay away from the cheap OEM **** that causes rotor problems- like warping. If I can't warp my stock rotors with Hawks, you won't have a problem. I can warp new RSX brakes in about 20 min of driving hard, yet my Hawks never had this problem.

PBR delux or XBG best pads in the world ... ideal for frequent stops and hard braking.. i've been using them for years.. imo they are better than any other pads i've used

I've been using only OEM pads and I'm yet to experience warped rotor problem. I'm sure I'm not the only one either.

I forget if the HPS are ceramic, but I don't think they are- I think they are a combination of kevlar and some other stuff. They don't dust anymore than OEM pads do and do not squeal if beaded in right. I find mine stopping harder with more and more heat put on them, which is great cause most pads are good for a few seconds of hard braking then you get what is called GREEN FADE- pads are vapor locking ontop of the rotor and you can't stop.

I've used two sets of OEM pads now. One set on my old OEM rotors and now using them on my iRotors (slotted & cross-drilled) - very little dust and great stopping capabilities.

OEM is my vote.

Dealer service dept pricing for pads

I just called Brown's Nissan service department in Arlington VA to ask about pricing to replace my rotors (2 years since they were last resurfaced) for my SE20th, and here's the conversation:

"The front rotors are $118 each, and the rear rotors are $117 each"
So when I pay the ~$480, is that for just rotors, or is the whole assembly included?
"Well, the brake pads are like five bucks, so..."

So instead of paying that much for OEM, I ordered Power Slot rotors from www.ptuning.com in Manassas and plan to take them to have the dealer install with new OEM pads and whatever is involved in installing brakes.

But now I just looked online at various parts sites and I'm seeing OEM prices in the $40-50 range per brake pad. Is the service department quoting the rotors high so they can quote the pads low? Am I going to pay another $200 for pads when I have them install my rotors?

I have just put PBR R4-s pads and power slots on, its a bit different from stock, for one thing I notice that my pedal feels softer initially but as you get more on it it grabs hard. Nice but different. anybody have any tips on beading in the pads? I did the 35 to 10 thing 5 times and then 55 10 thing 3-4 times. My pads still squeal sometimes. Other than that they seem nice but wasn't like a super super upgrade IMO.
