consult port...? just a stab in the dark, do you mean where youd plug in a scan tool...? im pretty sure that would be near the passanger's feet, next to the ECU wiring harness.

If you're sitting in the driver seat, in front of your left knee is the fuse box panel. Open it up, and in the bottom right corner will be the Consult port.

I'm wondering as Akumachan... how'd u get a hold of a Consult unit?

I got a PLMS consult from australia. 110 US dollars. tis basically a laptop serial port adapter. plug it into the consult -> serial port .... or well i hav ea serial port to USB adapter.

anyhow, then I have a program called Nissan Data Scan. which is essentially nissan's CONSULT. there are a few other programs out there people have written to do the same.. as well as burn ROM's to the eprom chip for tuning.

i'd need an eprom burner to program the ECU with. but i'lll etyo uknow what I can figure out. The only reason I wanted to see what it'll do on the Maxima, is because its my gf's maxima. Its giving me a code on the speed sensor and a couple other related things, and I wanted to monitor all the sensors ( the program has "analog " gauges where you can see them all. ) ... and find any sort of oddities. I actually bought the tool to use on my 90 300ZX.

I'm hoping the consult port is the same. I have to wait till she gets back to test it out. If it works i'll have to post a pic of the sensor readouts.

Diagnostic Trouble Code 0504 points to a problem with the Automatic Transmission Communications line. Pulse signals are exchanged between the Engine Control Module and the Transmission Control Module to assure smooth shifting during hard acceleration or deceleration.

This malfunction is detected when the ECM continuously receives an incorrect voltage from the TCM. Possible causes include...
- Harness or connectors (The communications line circuit between the ECM and the TCM is open or shorted.)
- TCM
- Discharged or faulty battery

You want to flash a 4th gen ECU? Isn't that impossible since our ECUs aren't flashable?

its not a "real" consult, its just an adapter that goes from the consult port, to a serial port of your laptop. then I have a windows program called nissan datascan that will read it...
___________
.. so how can I check the TCM's voltage... or whatever? in order to further narrow down the problem with the max?

and yes.. australia.. and yes it works... the guy got it to me in about a week.

keep in mind: you can only monitor sensors, and do diagnostics like turning off cylinders, fuel pump...advance timing....etc. You can also download your ecu's program (.rom)

you cannot burn to the eprom without some separate eprom burner, and even then you'd have to know what you are doing.

How would you burn the eprom onto our ECU when companies like JWT or TS can't do it?

I just downloaded the program from emule. There's several freeware programs available. Like he said, just google it. Apart from the keywords already posted, try ConZult. Now to build the cable...

Has read through at a forum that you have program Nissan Data Scan v.1.4 for consult the interface. I have made the interface. You can send it to me this program to email? It is very necessary!

Thank you.

In all honesty, this is probably the best/most worthwhile thread I've ever stumbled across here on the .ORG. Please, let's keep exchanging information on this. Who cares if we can't "flash" the car's ECU - this is worth the money for its diagnostic values alone!

WTF?

But yea, it would be kinda cool to build/buy a consult cable and use this program...that is to say, if I had a PC laptop with which to use it.

So all i need is the OBD2 cable to get this to work right ? saw one for 10 bucks on ebay.

or do i need the OB2 Interface ??? witch one would work for my 95 ? or do i have to plug this into the consult in the passenger side??

i could not possibly agree more. Can someone post a link to the directions on making the cable? I have a laptop and I would be happy to help anyone (within reasonable distance) get their cars information once i make the cable and test it.

what i am looking at appears to be a simple DB9 to USB cable. Should be fairly simply. I have a few downloads going all claiming to be the official (and full not free) ConZult software. Once i confirm this i will make it available (by pm i will not post the link) to the rest of you.

EDIT: NM its DB9 from the cable that goes into the DDL cable, so we would still need to find that cable or directions to make it at a reasonable cost. the DB9 to USB cable from there on would be simple.

Check it out guys: I build professional CONSULT-I interface cables on the side. They are fully USB compliant: no serial-USB adaptors to mess with or buy. More importantly, they have the OEM DDL connector attached, so no wiring is neccessary at all.

Designed, assembled, & supported in the USA.

Assembled, tested, shipped, for $75USD(more for international shipping). This is no business or mass production, so everyone will get my personal attention.

BTW - will work on Maxima A32(VG30DE), B13 Sentra, Z32, Altima, 240sx, Quest(haha), and some Infiniti's

Email/PM me for more info.

I'll be honest and admit that I'm a 240sx guy(and not so knowledgeable of Maximas), but the 1995-1999 Maxima was an A32 platform with the 190hp VQ30DE, correct?

CONSULT-I capability should be good on all 1990's Maximas up and including 1997, but I can not say that I have personally tested a '97 or '98.

Cheers,
Jamie
