Cat-back Performace Gains
Cat-back Performace Gains
I know this has been discussed many times. However, I am about to purchase a cat-back and would like to see verifiable results from people on whether their cat-back addition has added any gain. I am most likely going with Cattman. However, I would like to see results on all types.
I just got a Cattman and I love it. I noticed a small gain in power, but I didnt dyno it or anything. Cat-back systems are not the source of large gains by any means. When you replace both the intake and exhaust, the engine can 'breathe' with much less effort, leaving more power for the pavement. Stock headers, y-pipe, and cat with an aftermarket catt-back exhaust are not going to make too much more power. The real gains come from replacing the y and headers. The thing is, the gains from doing all youir exhaust components are greater than the sum of the parts.
i have intake and exhaust and i was inching away from a 2000 or 2k1 i30 on the freeway today. i figure its the same car so we should be pretty even. wasnt really paying attention to speeds, but his front bumer was by my front door when he hit the brakes.
On a VQ35 you'll get a 5-7 HP increase with a catback with a straight through muffler. No has dyno'd a Frankencar car yet that I know of which has a chambered muffler. I'll see if I could find some thread with dyno comparisons.

the gain is power is coming off the b pipe. On a NA maxima the stock muffler is more than sufficient. I say just get a b pipe and get a custom made 2.5 pipe to replace the rear section and weld the stock muffler up to it.

If anyone has any hard evidence I would like to see it because my exhaust setup is a little loud the way it is.
I am speaking from experience. i had a straight through muffler on a 2.5 inch b pipe and when i switched back to my stock muffler(without the rear section piping) i didn't notice any loss in performance. This was done with me running a supercharger w/ a 10psi pulley so the results would be more dramatic, therefore more noticable. I also have the WSP y pipe and it gives a nice growl at WOT. I switched back to the stock muffler because i too was sick of the noise. I hope this comparison helps

you have to heat the rear section pipe up with a torch and bend it just slightly to bolt it up.

and if you do the ecu upgrade and get headers....the b pipe should make a difference

your car could be lighter due to the I30 having more options
