Come on man, you can't leave us hanging like this! What was wrong with your car that Nissan decided to buy it back from you?

all problems the rest of us suckers live with. i just wish the damn shimmy was gone. if the shimmy was gone the car would be flawless cause i wouldnt be able to hear all th enoises once i crank up the xm and i wont be able to see imperfections on the exterior while driving.

LOL @ those problems. I'd think you'd bought a cavalier or something.

So presumably you'll not buy another nissan? I wouldn't either if that happened to me.

Hey, check out my 05 Avalon thread in "other cars". I've never owned a toyota, but it's a safe bet that if you buy an avalon you'll not go back to the dealer until it's time for an oil change.

Damn did nissan ever drop the ball on the 6th gens. I know all cars have growing pains with a new gen, but it seems that the 6th gens have taken that to a whole new level. Has anybody on this forum got a 1st year 6th gen and not had problems with it?

Thats great news to hear they are willing to buy back something they messed up on. On the flipside I'm upset to hear they will sell it in a different state to some poor soul.

you should post the last 6 digits of your VIN and the forum could get the word out before they sell it to that poor soul

I think I bought its offspring.

From what I can tell, no one else is having the shimmy problem with 2005s. I have had my Max in 4 times in the last 2 weeks for the shimmy and it is there now (even all 4 RSAs replaced). Speaking of cavaliers, my rental is a 2003 or 2004 Grand Am with 20k miles on it that rides better than my 2005 max.

Nash, you hvae a shimmy on your 05 Max?

I have an 05 max with aftermarket wheels, but with the stock RSAs tires. at my 7500 service they had to balance and rotate the tires. for some reason they couldnt balance my wheels and sent them out to a speed shop (its not like my wheels are anybigger, they are 18s as well). I was worrying about the shimmy, 2 weeks have gone by and nothing as of yet. it rides actually better now. So no shimmy with my 05 SE.

I'm sorry that you are having shimmy problems.

I am knocking on wood as I type but so far so good. However only at 7k miles. I will keep my fingers crossed. It's an 04 but built later in 04 maybe that will help me.

I had a laundry list of problems when I got mine. The only thing that was never repaired to my satisfaction was the shimmy in the front end. I finally got that fixed today after 28,000 miles. Everything else was taken care of in two trips to the dealer.

I love my '04 SL. My dealer fixed all but one problem the first time I took it in, and fixed the last problem the second time I took it in. As far as I can tell, it is now a perfect vehicle. It quietly and effortlessly cruises at 100 mph just like it was rolling on flat glass. No hint of any vibration. Practically steers itself.

It must be very disappointing to have a vehicle this beautiful beleaguered by countless problems. I sympathize with those unfortunate souls beset with problems with their Maxima.

Problems? What problems? Sorry to hear about your issues but glad to hear they took care of you.

Most problems with ANY car I've owned in over 25 years? BMW 540i... and NO, they didn't buy it back.. It seems I'm just a silly American with high expectations. Germans know all when it comes to cars and what we a-holes should want and what are "acceptable levels of failure/owner abuse".

The weekend free car washes for life, with "brunch" in the "owner's lounge"? Pfft. Truthfully, the best driver's car I've ever owned, but ANY mfg. can screw the pooch. Some just more than othes.

Knock on wood. I've got 17K on my '04SL, and apart from a glitch with the rear seatbelts, I've had no problems since I first picked up the car. A CD player was replaced two days after I picked up the car. Apart from that, smooth sailing.

I agree...some manufacturers have higher levels of "acceptable failures" than others. That's why it boggles my mind at how much poeple pay for some German cars, when they're really very highly overrated (ahem VW/Audi anyone?). That's why I'm surprised to hear this about a Maxima, because in general, they just don't break.

Glad to hear some 6ths are not breaking down

German cars yeah i think you need to expect it. VW/Audi in particular have horrid reliability these days.

looks like they want the cars to have problems, or else the service dept will be useless (which in most case, they already are...LOL)

Too bad that camry only has 210 horses. Is there a reason you didnt want the SE with the 230? Congrats either way.

The '04 was the first Max built in the U.S. Read into that what you may. But it obviously is the first run of the new generation, so expect some kinks, I suppose.

My problem is (with no disrespect to mattman,et al) how can someone test drive a vehicle, then purchase it without noticing the myriad of problems that some of you list? I know it is easy to be "blinded by the light" of a spanking new car, but you have to notice some of these issues on a test drive, IMO.

The cars that people often test drive are not the ones they end up buying and driving home off of the lot. I think I will test drive the one I buy, I hope.

Test Drive did not reveal issues that I had

My car was solid during test drives. I have had a myriad of issues in the 19k miles since I bought it though. See my post on Pet Peeves link.

Friend that just bought a 01 S4 6spd- and hates it, went to the dealer and saw a new S4 out on the front of the lot- it had condensation in the left headlight like a ****.... 60K dollars for this ??? I got 103K miles on my 01 5spd and I got rattles left n right, but this is highly attributed to my bumps in the trunk. Car is flawless otherwise

i think its more then some kinks, there are multiple cases of dealer buybacks on the 6th gen in this forum. never heard of any before on the 4th of 5th gens.

Do ppl still lose money on dealer buybacks?

Well my 05 has had none of the problems stated by the orginal poster (knock on wood)

Looks like Nissan did a good job.
Besides thats why there is a Lemon Law, bad ones always are out there.

I can barely make out what you typed. When did you get your car? Look under the back bumper, there's a sticker that tells you when the car was made. It's rare that an 05 has that many problems... so far.

Even Honda and Acura have lemons, I have seen quite a few buy backs at my Acura dealership. Cars get fixed and resold, sometimes manufacturer doesn't want us techs spending 2-3 days on electrical problem that CAN'T be fixed. Acura bought back a MDX from some customer not too long ago, and even the engineers couldn't figure out wtf happened to the car, with every wire and computer repleaced.

**** happens ya know, most people just don't like the car and try to get theirs bought back as a lemon- thats how I see it.

Yup. Most parts can be replaced and make like new. Sometimes the problem is from the assembly line, like if a wire was cut or pinched somewhere. Who knows...
