www.maximadriver.com..........

........how2 section. Its easy, pop out the piece around the shifter, put it in nuetral to get the piece around the top of the shifter. Unscrew the 2 screws to your left, then pop out the ashtray(this was the hardest part for me the first time I tried) and unscrew 1 more screw. Now place your thumbs in the clock and push up, the vents will pop out and the unscrewed bottom of the console will lift out towards you allowing the slots in the top to pop free. Thats it I think.
I can do it in less than a minute now. It is really that easy after the first time.

You have to pry out around the vents. Behind the vents there are two screws holding the top of the console. On the bottom end, pop out the piece around the shifter. Next, unscrew the screw that holds the ash tray. The bottom end is held by the same type of screws that were on the top. After you unscrew them, you can pull out the whole console.

OK here goes

1. insert key
2. turn to accessory mode
3. engage emergency brake
4. If you have an auto, pull shifter to 1st or 2nd
5. Get a flathead or something and pry up the panel around the shifter
6. Disconnect the power to the cig lighter and unscrew the screws that hold in the ash tray
7. The ash tray is a pain to get out, it is fastened by one visible screw and two clips on the right side
8. Unscrew two bolts on the bottom of the dash assembly
9. Take a flathead and carefully pry up the air conditioner vents. Once you get it out, it pulls up and out. There are two plugs that go into it, if you want more room you can take them out.
10. There are two bolts on the top of the dash assembly that need to come out.
11. Once those are out, carefully lift the entire middle section out.

I think that should be everything. You should be golden after that, just make sure you be careful with all the screws since they are a pain to get if you drop them while working on the dash.

Good Luck

DCmax has the good step by step. Here's the easy instructions, pry out trim panel around shifter. Then work your way up taking off screws first then pry. Take your time, it's pretty easy. Good luck.

First attempt = failure
I got the wood around the shifter and ashtray out no problem. Then I went to work on the AC vents and think I broke half of the clips at the top and never did get it out. Can anyone describe in DETAIL how to get this thing out, where to pry, etc. I pried the top out and those plastic things that hold it in were out but it wouldn't budge. I may be seeing things but it appears its connected the the black piece below it?? When I am prying, do I just take the cover out and then the piece with the air deflectors or do they all come out together? I just got the cover half off. I tried pushing up on the clock but that didn't get me anywhere either. Any pics of this? Thanks.

Try looking at this

I think this is a picture of SWEETSOUND's dash, but Im not certain, it was on my computer.

Try prying on the bottom part of the clock and when you feel the clips disengage, move to the very top of the vents (not pictured) and pry those out. It comes out slowly, and you sort of need to pull it up to get it out.

I think it comes out in one piece. I'd start removing trim from bottom of dash and work your way up. It takes more time and disconnecting but nothing gets broken.

I dont see why it would be harder since the clips are on the inside.

I got it apart. They have some great pics at the installdr. I was looking for the "hidden" button that would show outside temperature on some ACC's but never found one. But the person did say your dash has to be the exact kind as his which mine isn't. Oh well, thanks for your help.

Now it's my turn to take the center console out for adding a CD player. I have the instruction showing step by step how to do it. But the ash tray is difficult to move out. I took the left side srew out, and tried pushing the ash tray towards left, according to the instruction. However I felt it didn't move.

Exactly which direction should I push it to get it out? Two clips on the right side of the ash tray is what I heard from here. Can I just increase the force to the left until it comes out?

Thanks in advance.

From what I remember of getting mine apart I just pulled mine towards me. I opened it up, grabbed the sides, and pulled out until it finally came. I dont think it goes to the left? Anyone know for sure?

Yes actually I pulled it out towards me, right after I finished asking that question in this forum. Now the CD player is working perfect. BTW it is the one from Courtsey Nissan, $69+$10(shipping).

Thans for the answer. I feel this is the great forum, like a Maxima family.

Easy way

Get a friend to help or if your talented... pry two points, one at each opposite ends (L&R) Get a firm grip then pull evenly. I find many people prying on one corner then pulling, expecting the other ends to pop off. This will cause tabs to break if you pull to hard. Also, make sure you don't loose the little metal clips holding the tabs. It's just that easy. Same goes with the gauge bezel. Hope this helps...
