Question About Starter
When I start my car, I hear a loud sound that apparently comes from the starter. I've read about this problem and how to stop the noise...by regreasing it. Does regreasing the starter stop the problem? What is the actual problem with the starter that causes the noise? Would I be better off to get a new starter?
More information please

Please elaborate. Is this sound a grinding, a banging, a buzzing, ??? Is it heard immediately before the engine cranks (Rrr-Rrr-Rrr), or while it is cranking, or after the engine fires (Vroom!)?

After the engine starts it is an extended sound. I don't know how to describe it, it's been talked about many times before on this board. I know for sure that the starter is the problem. I'm just wondering if regreasing the starter solves the problem or just eliminates the noise.

This repair procedure makes sense if you like to do your own "wrenching". If you perfer to pay a professional, you might just as well get a remanufactured starter.
