Help with the o/d button!

i was doin 65 i was pressing the gas like about less than half an inch down....i was holding **** i acidentaly press the O/D buton and the rpm jumped from 2 to 3.5 k and then i decided to press the gas ....wow the car really picked up...its like when the car is in regular mode i can feel the car slowley but surley get to my speed (90) but with the over dire botton on the car really picks up quicker.

can any one explain the o/d button?

the o/d button is 4th gear. when you turn o/d off, it doesn't allow the car to shift into 4th.

so which one is better for gas? and which one is better if i want to go pcik up faster?

if you have overdrive off and you're on the highway, you'll get less gass mileage, because your rpm's will be higher. if you're in the city, some people recommend turning overdrive off, because if you're around 30-35 mph, instead of your transmission trying to shift to 4th, it will stay in 3rd, which is better on the transmission (less unnecessary shifting), and you will get better torque if you need to get on the gas. hope that helps. you should look through some other threads - this topic has come up before
