? on grill painting (pics)

Hello All

Going to replace my 3piece broken grill in a couple of days, I need to repaint this green grill I bought from a junk yard Black. What is the best paint to use that will match our cars? Also should i get a good grit sand paper and sand off the old paint or is there a better method?

has anyone else painted their grill? if so how many coats of each did you use and what type of primer did you use? asuming the grill is urethane do I need a special type of primer for that surface?

sorry for the blurr pics, but those who painted their grill, did you sand, prime, and paint?

thanks for the help.

Get a can of DupliColor spray paint, scuff the grill really good with 00 steel wool and put a few coats of paint on it.

i had a chrome grill before i painted it black. i used krylon Fusion. Did about 6-8 coats of black and 4 coats of duplicolor clear. Only prepwork I did was cleaning everything with alcohol and sanding 800 and 1500. Still standing up through the weather.

Check out autobarn.com (search: paint) and see if they sell your color code. 80 grit dry will take off any old paint. 400 grit wet/dry will take off roughness, and 800 git wet/dry will smooth everything out.
Start with grey primer. Get an even coat. Let dry for an hour. Follow with color one coat at a time in smooth strokes. Let dry for an hour. Follow with covering up any primer you still see. Let dry for an hour. Then follow with clear coat.

PS - Shake the can for 10 minutes. Use gloves and dont let any dirt go on it. Clean the surface aftersanding with degreaser, and wipe off with a tack cloth. Use gogles and you should probably get a charcol mask. One 5oz. can of each will do.

Total cost apx $50

Wow thank you for that. Never wet sanded before but its pretty much the same as dry sanding. Will use this info when painting.
