Thanks for all of your replys. I just received a message from another member about a second gen short shifter that places gears 1,3 and 5 to it's stock position. It does cost about $41 more plus shipping. He claims it's a "GREAT shifter". Check it out. http://stillen.com/sportscars_detail...d=60613&main=1.

I also have the HPA short shifter and love it. But, it seems like HPA's fabricator, Fastshift.com, has made a second piece that attaches near the shifter itself to relieve the shifter being moved forward with the piece near the trans. This is being offered to the 6th gen guys.
Anyone know anyplace that sells the second piece alone?

TWM plus ES bushings
I've got the TWM shift mechanism which made a huge difference. I've never encountered anything as sloppy as the OEM Max shifter.
Then I added the ES bushings from Cattman which really tightened things up. Almost feels worthy of the engine now.

I've got the HPA and love it. Got used to the new "pushed-forward" position so that's not a big deal now. Don't like the extra notchy feel though... The one on Stillen's site as well as the TWM basically work exactly the same. What DOES interest me is the other pieces you guys are talking about, from fastshift & this other watkins or whatever.

have the twm...i am very happy. it moved the pattern forward, but i am very glad i purchased it. i got it on ebay for 150 shipped. i also included the es bushings and it is much more enjoyable to drive now. i would like to get the "other" pc that goes on the shifter end too. anyone else have issues with the clip that retains the shifter cable to the bracket just before the shifter linkage comming loose? it came off the other day and i had no 1,3,5 gears...replaced the clip that came off, and it was all better, but glad i stopped and didn't keep going or i would have lost the clip and been s.o.l.! something to keep an eye on if you replace the bushings.
So this extra piece that will fit on twm and hpa. It moves the shift points back to stock, but does it do like the descprition if u apply this to the twm or hpa for a 70 percent reduction??????????? "Tuning STS1 console shifters and the new transmission-mounted STS2 "

BTW, thanks for the reply. Great product.
Short Throw Short Throw Short Throw Short Throw
STS1 (Gen 1) Short Throw Shifter, mounted inside the console and used on non reverse lockout shifters. (ex. Altima and Sentra) 46% reduction
STS2 (Gen 2) Short Throw Shifter, two pieces, first piece on the transmission and second piece in the console and used on all 2002+ models. (ex. Altima, Maxima, and Sentra) 37% reduction
To use both Short Throw Shifters together, you need a non reverse lockout model, (ex. Altima and Sentra), all of STS1 (Gen 1) and the transmission piece of STS2 (Gen 2). 70% reduction
You might be able to do this on a Maxima if you converted to an Altima or Sentra non reverse lockout console shifter housing.

Ok, so basically it's still the same 3 products that existed before. Since they're all basically the same, the best one would be whichever you can get the best deal on at the time, between HPA, TWM, or Stillen...

the two piece product until this thread.
The STS2 is compatible with the reverse lockout on the 5.5 gen Maxima if I
am reading this correctly. The only reason to change to a non lockout shifter is if you want to use the STS1 and STS2 together.
Is this correct, Companyman?
glude, can you ask him to post here with some feedback for the rest of us losers...like how he's using both, if i am understanding your post, and what mods he had to make to the assembly? thanks

Fast-Shift.com and Watkins (and Company Man) are all the same - Company Man IS Watkins and Fast-Shift.com.
He's the one who manufactured the very first STS for the 02/03 Maximas (for HPA). TWM's STS came out AFTER the Watkins/HPA unit.
The STS unit on Stillen's website looks like a Watkins unit - in fact, the 4 position 350Z STS Stillen is selling HAS to be a Watkins, because it's Patented by Watkins.
So basically, the only company not selling a Watkins unit, is TWM - and theirs doesn't look anywhere near as sturdy as the Watkins one does...

Just cut the shaft at the bottom of the threads and install an aftemarket **** if you want a shorter shaft. There is a Group Buy going on these shifters now:
