'03 Warranty Work - Wheel Bearing?
'03 Warranty Work - Wheel Bearing?
*I apologize in advance for the long read*
All,
The basics on my car are as follows. I bought my car in August of '04, at which time it had ~27,500 miles on it (It was sold to me as a "Certified Used Car," and thus qualified for the 6yr/100,000mi. powertrain warranty). Approximately 6,000 miles later, the brakes in the back went out. I was rather disappointed in this, since most of my travel is done on Interstates and I know that brakes don't go very easily in 6,000 miles. It's quite obvious that the dealership that I was working with did a sub-par job of inspecting my car, if they even did. They wanted to charge me ~$800 to do the front/rear brakes. I ended up doing this myself. When I pulled the rears off, the driver's side pad was COMPLETELY gone and it was grinding away the rotor. This really upset me, since I had paid good money for what I thought was a car that they had done a thorough job of inspecting. Hindsight is 20/20, however, and I know now that I should've done more than just the Carfax and I should've taken it to my mechanic for an inspection. That aside, the car is now at ~39,000 miles (and, obviously out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty) and now I'm getting a low-pitched humming noise coming from the passanger side front wheel at hightway speed. Also, whenever I go over a speed bump (if I have my window down) I can hear what sounds like a "click" come from the front end. From the research I've done and what I've read, this is most likely wheel bearings. I've also seen that this is supposedly covered under the powertrain warranty. Does anyone know how I can force the dealer to adhere to this? I'm already angry enough about the brake factor alone, much less how I was treated by the service manager at the dealership. I want to take this car there, and have them fix it. If anyone can provide me with any help, I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks.

What dealership did you take it to? I noticed that you are in Smyrna. I would either suggest taking to another dealership or try working your way up the chain at that one. Also, you can try calling Nissan customer service if that doesn't work.
As far as the issue, my bro's '01 needs a new wheel bearing & hub, it has the same problems/noise you are referring to. Parts are ~200 bucks or so, not sure about labor or if it still is covered. Also, take a look at the axle bolt to make sure that it is tight. On the '01 it keeps coming loose.

I originally bought the car from Bill Newton in Conyers. Seemingly, that was as big a mistake as taking it there to have the brakes looked at. The service manager was rude and basically yelled at me when I even implied that the dealership may have done something wrong. I sent an e-mail to the Customer Care department at the dealership and she called the next day to apologize. Still didn't resolve the issue, though.
I know I've seen mention before of these bearings being covered under the powertrain warranty, but I don't have a copy of this warranty to be able to prove that.
I just want the car to be functioning properly. I didn't think that was too much to ask.

Thanks for the help on that. I'll plan to take it to the dealership sometime this week. I'm just fearing that they may deny my warranty claim due to the fact that I don't have any service records for the car prior to when I purchased it.
Nor, did I take it in for any of Nissan's designated mile-marked services. Yet, that is.

It doesn't matter that you don't have the service records prior to your purchase. You purchased a "Certified Pre-Owned" car, which means Nissan takes the burden of responsibility prior to your legal ownership of your car (they vouch for it, basically)...
