I am just checking to see what information there is about this unit and if there is a mod to it that does anything at all or if it is just a real waste of time...

You can unhook the vaccum line to the swirl valve. Put a rubber cap on it and a rubber cap on the hose. This way it will keep the valve open at all time. You should get that extra kick in the pants when you go WOT from a standstill.

 

You don't even need to really gun it from a standstill to feel the benefit from capping the swirl valve. It was one of the first "mods" I did. Actually a fellow orger just did it for me. I did one circle around the parking lot and was absolutely amazed. I will never take the cap off. It only comes off when it goes to the dealer. Do this mod and your car will come to life from stop lights. No lie. You may loose 1 or 2 mpg for a few days, but they come back in a few days. I never really noticed myself. go do it. do it now!

Best .45 cents I ever spent!!! Stopped at home depot on the way home from work and picked up some caps. In terms of how much money ( 45 cents)and
time ( 2 minutes) i spent , and the results i got, this is a great mod . same feeling i got after i put in a new knock sensor!

 

Modding or bypassing that valve does absolutely nothing in regards to power or performance.

It's only functions for the first few minutes of operation, while the engine is cold and opens at ~2500 RPM's. Once the engine is up to operating temp, that valve is open all the time.

The only thing you accomplish by bypassing that valve is allowing more pollution into our enviroment while your motor is warming up.

I noticed a difference with this. How would it make the cars emmissions any worse then a fed spec car?

 

I think the valve is triggered by a vacuum line. It's pretty much a mechanical device. I don't think vacuum value changes according to operating temp. Unless the vaccum source is triggered by the ECU....I keep forgetting to double check my FSM on this. I'll check tonight.

 

def not a mod. It works. If you had a 99 cali spec and did it, you would understand.

 

The vacuum is controlled by a swtich. The ECU controls the switch under different conditions.
