Window wont go up
Window wont go up
I just bought a 1987 maxima the other day. So far a pretty good car for the money. But the pass. side window can go down but wont go up. do you guys think its the actual motor or maybe a switch? Any info/stories at all would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance

The only way to find out is test it. Take it out and connect it up to another door if the window does indeed go back up then it is something electrical if it doesnt and it only goes down and wont go back up then you know for sure its the window motor. My dad and I had to test my moms 850 GLT driver side window motor that way.
switch is probably bad. make sure the connector is good and tight. if you have a wiring diagram and are pretty good at testing stuff, you can bypass the switch with a piece of jumper wire. then you can check the switch for continuity.
I have the FSM for my 88 maxima. if you want, I can scan the pages that cover that and post em.

Hi Shiz-
I've got a gen 1 that had pretty serious probs with the windows being inop (within the first 2 days all windows quit working!). On the first gen cars the windows are controlled by a group of 4 switches in the center console - This was the problem. All of the switch contacts had serious carbon arcing & corrosion on them (23 year old Miami car - go figure). A few minutes with a pocket knife & sandpaper then a coating of silicone grease & they worked great!
BE CAREFUL! - The switch contacts are small brass buttons that are spring loaded - You have to be very gentle when unscrewing the switch housing are you could be in for a very rude surprise! (Ask me how I know........
