Cloth Inserts on Door Panels

How do I remove the cloth insert on the door panels? I remember seeing a post about it, but can't remember how to do it. It is just glued onto the door panel? Just shove a flat blade screwdriver in there and pull it out? I'm going to try to attempt to put some black vinal/leather in place of the tan.

Instead of buying a factory black leather insert I'm going to try to reupholster it myself. Let's see if I screw this up like everything else on my car.

Thanks...Aaron

Hey bro I have the identical brown interior you do...yeah its ugly....but what Im doing is making everything black.....first thing I did was get black floor mats...then I got front black leather seats and put them in...easy as pie..4 bolts...now im gonna get 4 new BLACK DOOR PANELS WITH LEATHER INSERTS...instead of getting leather inserts just get the black door panels.....I mean the whole interior wont be brown but you can get A LOT OF IT BLACK!...and mine is looking great so far.....just swap out the back seat for black leather, front seats, and 4 black door panels....thats the easiest....than you can work on getting black interior pieces from a junk yard.....let me know what ya think bro?? ...I mean you cant get the whole thing black, you could but it would be a lot of work....but you STILL CAN GET a majority of the interior black and thats good enough for me !!! :-) .... pm me or email.....im doing the sammmme thing bro !

From what i've seen, if you take off the door panel, you'll notice an obvious 'elliptical' trim for where the cloth/leather insersts are supposed to be. Now some door panels have this little metal 'clip' (sort of like a finger nail) all around the back 'elliptical' trim that are ben flush to the sruface of the door panel to fasten the inserts to the door panel. if you unbend these i believe the cloth/leather inserts can be removed. however i also noticed that some door panels dont even have these metal fastening pins?! like mine! and i have no idea how the cloth/leather inserts are even latched on the door panels! good luck with that one! hehe

Luvs2speed - I would like to do a whole black interior swap, but I don't like to spend money. I haven't spent a lot of money on my interior so far.

eturnl - I didn't take my door panel off the door. I tried one door my ripping the cloth right off the door. I will have to glue the new material right back on. I will take the door panel off in a few minutes and see what's up.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Hey Black Maxima....I dont like spending money either....but its not as expensive as you think.....I went to a junk yard and they offered 4 BLACK leather door panels in mint condition for 200$.....so its only 50$ for each panel...not bad at all....got all black leather seats for 180$!(front and back)

If you want to save the old insert you need to remove the panel. When you pull it off it will be obvious how to get the insert off.

I have the same issue- I got the '99 inserts ready to go in, but the cloth stuff is just glued on mine, I took one off and there are no holes to run the clips thru. I will take the drivers side door panel off soon, as someone busted up my lock trying to break in. While I'm fixing that I hopefully can figure this out. My guess is I will have to put some slot shape holes in to run the tabs thru , and bend over to hold in place. Any help is appreciated. '

I took off the door panel. Nothing on the inside of it. My cloth inserts are just glued on. Right now I'm glueing a new piece on. Going to be tough cutting off the excess.

i have a gxe and added full leather to my car. for the door panels, i simply peeled off the old cloth insert by sticking a flathead screw driver in and gently getting a small part of it to stick out, then i just tugged the whole thing off in one piece. i used factory leather inserts that i bought from someone on here and cut the appropriate holes to attach them to the door panel. however, since you plan on using vynal coverings, you don't really need to remove the door panel. most people just put it right over the existing cloth. i tried that a while back but could never get them perfectly in. i believe the member maxedout sells these and has a how2 on his cardomain homepage. hope this helps...

So today I glued some vinal onto one of the door panels. It was a pain to cut off the excess once it was on there. I screwed it up. I'm going to try it again...

Thanks for the reply Jepht20.
