gutz to do and fix the annoying sound in my brake!!!
hello,
im annoyed and worried about my brakes. i've been having squeeks here and there, as well as drop in brakefluid. i know it's an indicator of my pads wearing low, but i cked my fronts and they had plenty life.
i want to take apart my front brakes as suggested and taught in the DIY. clean/regrease or whatever to see what I can do, but worried bout stuff like torquing to correct specs, the small intangibles, like where and what to lube. as far as i've read, it just says to lube the caliper pins, but some other people have told me to lube the piston? or back of pads?
i tried to take off the bolt on the caliper and it was really tight, all i have are sockets and the basic.. should i attempt to spray some wd-40 and try or should i not? i guess i have to torque it real tight when i put it back..
Also picked up the brake cleaners the other day and sprayed to clean and it seemed like the sounds were gone, but it came back; should i can spray the pads w/ the cleanner or file or sand some areas down to reduce the squeek? the anti-squeek compound thign didn't work.. the sound comes back...
i just need the time and gutz to do it... im lanning on doing 1 side at a time mostly the 2 fronts..
any ideas suggestion, thoughts much appreciated.. thank you maxima.org

without you even having said it, i can tell you have aftermarket pads in your car. save yourself the time, effort, and stress, and just go buy nissan pads. they are the only ones that are not going to make any noise in your car. all this stuff about lube, and where to spray, isnt gonna prevent your aftermarket pads from making noise. if you take em out, and spray em with stop squeak, its gonna last like 2 weeks, and the noise will be rite back there annoying you again. ask anyone thats been on this board for a while, just get nissan pads. dont even waste yoru money on some of these "high performance pads". this aint nascar, dont try to make problems for yourself.. i think ive heard of like one type of pad that people "claim" they dont make noise.. simply put, i dont buy that at all.. i have had alot of aftermarket ones, been there , done that. the nissan pads are the only ones i ever owned that are COMPLETELY SILENT.
and yes, for the front you need to use a c-clamp, the rears need to be turned back. people have said you can use needle nose pliers to do it, i cant see that working cause mine were real hard to turn back, and besides, the tool you need to do it is only $9.. dont be nervous , its easy. just goto an auto parts store and tell em you need the tool to turn back calipers with.

honestly we bought the car used..but bought it from the orig owner (so we're 2nd).. and i believe it is still the OEM nissan pads... theres PLENTY pad.. actually a decent amount.
It just annoys me a bit, but its alright, what bothers me more is the cap is missing from the bleed, and I dont believe when people say dont' worry, cuz I touched it and it was leaking a bit. I am gonna find a cap and bleed and do that..
Regarding pads, I have axiss on the side because I initially thought my fluid going down were due to pads, but after checking out, I believe the bleed bolt cap had somethign to do with it. Maybe next time I will go OEM. But i can't return or refund it, so I might as well..
Another thing scared me was i heard the pads rub rotars or something but it went away. I guess i didn't torque the wheel back on tight enough. After the shop, taking it off by hand was hella hard, but I managed. The 2nd time I went to take it off, due to the noise I heard while driving, I found it being way easier. I torqued it pretty tight now..
I know I am not doing stuff like slotted drilled rotars, hawks pads, type of thing, but I just want to maintain the car. I just thought the axiss would be a bit better.
thanks again..
