Severe brake dust on rims!!

What is the best thing to use to take off severe brake dust and dirt off the rims (rims haven't been cleaned for months). On the polished lip of the rims, there are a whole bunch of black spots that won't come off even if i scrub with a green pad. What should i do?

dude...lol.....get some steel wool or get a LITTLE bit of simple green and use it very carefully...you dont wanna strip your rims just clean them....or you could just go to pep boys and buy some intense wheel cleaner and then buy a hard brush and scrub the **** out of the rim....no pad will get the job done....get a STRONG BRUSH from pepboys and some good wheel cleaner.....if that dont work get the steel wool and simple green

OK DEFINATLEY dont do that. Get a good wheel cleaner, some citrus degreaser, and then clay the wheels. Should get all the crap off

Only use steel wool if that absolutley didnt work. #0000 steel wool too, nothing else.

Generic brake pads dust like a *****... Get some Bendix or Raybestos and there will be a LOT less brake dust. I've tried some generics on the rear and they dusted as bad as the name brand front pads! I then switched to name brand rear pads and they hardly dust at all.

Yeah I bought some crap pads spur of the moment. It's not even worth washing my car because there will be a mushroom cloud of smoke from the rotors first time I hit brakes.
