Looking for stock rotor size and weight again (info on the brakeman)
Looking for stock rotor size and weight again (info on the brakeman)
hey guys, i recall my old rusty rotors are weighing in at 13.5 lbs each, and that is from 7-8 years of use. what im looking for is the dimensions of the rotor? does anyone know that right off hand.
i found a site: http://www.thebrakeman.com/home
The brakeman says that lightweight rotors are his specialty. in case he ask me anything about the rotor wanted to have some info just in case.
anyone care to look over the site and post up some comments go ahead. this is all new to me. im actually looking for new rotors and thought if i could piece something like this together and cut a few pounds, it'd be greaat !
what are these weird looking rotors ?

Wow that is an interesting find. A lot of people on here get bigger and heavier brake rotors, but that is against your philosophy. but then again they say
You are probably wondering the same thing, but how much do they cost? How do they perform in comparision with brembo blanks performance and weight wise? Why are they shaped like that?

spig i have the same questions, i emailed the guy and he said hey give me a call. they even have rotors for the maxima, but what im looking for is a lighter rotor than what i have now. mine are old and weigh 13.5 lbs, the photo above of the stillen rotor is great also weighing in at 14.42 lbs. I contacted tirerack a ways back and was told the brembo replacements were 11.2 lbs each. so i went ahead and bought them. when they arrived they were direct replacements allright and were 15 lbs each. so i sent them back !
spig i really dont know why they look like that and thats mainly because im a homeboy with a maxima and dont know about the cooler things in this world. maybe its some sort of two piece deal and both the rotor and hub are lighter ? according to the site the evolution i belive it was is 144 each. thats still around the same moneys for the different replacement rotors at tirerack. if i can land a lighter rotor for around the same money i will once again be a happy maxima punk.
spig email that guy and get some answers !!

You may know this already, but the rotor diameters, at least on the 99 Maxima, are 11.02 inches for the front rotors (vented) and 10.94 inches for the rear rotors (solid). That's from the "official" spec document that I have. The rears are much thinner and lighter.
careful that their not too light....they need to be massed a certain or you will certainly warp them as simple physics dictate that more mass absorbs heat better, and disperses it better, kinda like heavier and heavier heatsinks on processors...my bro's audi S4 warps rotors like nothing else, his car weighs way to much...the problem found by audi was that the rotors were too light for the weight of the car and warped too easily...but I think you would be okay with a few pounds off...
it looks like brake man is your choice....I wish they made the "revolution" style rotors for your cars, those things are around 4-5lbs....!!! instead we get the "procast"....I have no idea how much those weigh....but I hope there is a good deal of weight off...
